Sorry for cross posting but no ones responding to the other thread and i really want to get this installed. Its all over my floor.
I'm kind of stuck with installation of the fliptop. The one i ordered dint come with a plastic piece nor instructions so i had to find them on another site. Unlike the instructions there arnt tabs that hold the white plastic piece in, its a solid black circle that holds it in. Should i break this to get the white piece?

Yea. I dont see why i would need the top to the dvd-drive unless i remove the fliptop later..but i'll try it your way. Just push down on one side and bring the other side up? can i bend it at all?
edit: I just tried it and there is no way ic ould do it that way.

try bending the cover plate backwards.with your thumbs on the back(the side that goes on top)push forward while pulling from the sides with your other fingers.as if you want to pop the disc out.

? I dont understand what you mean. Even if you were to push from the side of the magnetic plate there is no way the disk would pop through the black plastic that its encased in.

you do have the cover plate off the ps2?its kinda hard to explain.but basically try and pop the disc out thru the big hole.bend the plate a little while trying to do so.or you could take a serated knife and hack away at the plate to get the disc out.you probably wont need the original cover again anyway.mine has three tabs that hold the white peice in so i dont know what you are talking about.what version ps2 do you have?

I have version three. Basicly say you had the tabs like you do, then add a complete plastic circle connecting all the tabs all the way around, thats what it looks like. If i'm not gonna use it i'm just going to break it. I really dont want to bend the white piece and iut being so bent up i cant use it.

if you can,try to cut out the plastic so you have three tabs like mine then take out the disc.it might take some skill with a knife or razor blade.but you would still be able to use the plate just in case.just make sure not to cut thru the disc.

Actually i found out a much easier way of doing it. Trying to pry the thing out i accidently broke off a piece of the black plastic holding it in. There are three slots you can fit a philips screwdriver in, and if you lift off it should chip off in about 1/6'th of an inch pieces. Keep doing that all the weay around untill you have three small pieces of plastic. Worked really well.

Just a lil update. I installed it, and the first two two screws wouldnt go in and the power on button got stuck. So i unscrewed it and took off the lid, redid the power button and the wire attached to it. Now it works perfectly (and oddly, there was slow load times the first time i did it, but now its loading normally, if not faster). I think the slow load times had something to do with the white piece not being far enough down to hold the cd in place.
