Hopefully someone can guide me in the right direction. I have a movie that is 2hours and 30 minutes long and encoded using CCE to fit on a standard DVD-R. The problem lies in when I try to play it back during scenes where there is alot of motion it tends to "leave a trail" or the picture is jerky or jumpy. Only in fairly high motion scenes does this occur. The quality is excellent and the sound is right on target. Funny thing is when I encode a movie for example that is 90 minutes long this doesn't happen. Right now i'm using just single pass VBR but I may switch to double or triple pass. Also does CCE change thr frame rate of the movie when you encode as I thought this may be the problem. If it does any advice on how to change it back to 29 fps would be great! Thanks! -dvmaestro

At first glance, this appears to be a media related problem. 2hr 30 mins is pushing the compression on a DVD-R to the limit.

I use CCE extensively, but with good quality, and never experienced this problem.

What media are you using ?

First off
I'd use three passes (well I do in fact)
CCE will change the frame rate of NTSC discs but if it has then the audio should be way off and you'd notice.

If you are re-encoding NTSC discs then you need to run Pulldown to put the framerate back to 29.97 I have never used it as I am on PAL

this guide will wlak you through the CCE and Pulldown process

2 hours 30 minutes shouldn't be a problem. I have done both Gladiator and Harry Potter 1 which are both that length with no quality issues at all using the method above

I'a a newbie using CCE. I used Tmpgenc before but after seeing a moving encoded with cce i could see this was better tha Tmpgenc.

How can i tell cce that my filesize shouldn't exceed for example 4,3 gb !!

I made dvd-r coded with tmpgenc with no problems now i want to try CCE.

You can't you have to tell it to reencode at a certain bitrate that you have worked out that added to the audio file size will not exceed 4.3GB

There is a nice tool here to work it out http://www.fukrulez.com called funkncalcDVD but given the nature of the rest of the site you might want to get over there before this link is removed

First off, I would make sure your settings are correct. How do you find out if it's progressive or interlaced? Or if it's zigzag? Or from the top or bottom? Any one of these settings could mess up your encode. You could use bitrate viewer to find all of these settings.

Maybe I am just lucky at reencodeing, but I have successfully backed up the extended version of LOTR (almost 4 hours) and you cannot tell the difference. Absolutely perfect.

Malum hit it right on the head. In dvd2avi, in NTSC, you must force film to get to 23.97 fps. This will also help your encoding time to speed up. After the encode, run the pulldown.exe program on the mpv file cce gave you. This will take about 10 minutes.
