Hey I have a Huge Problem. Well while I was surfing the web, a pop-up showed up and I accidently click YES. Then it downloaded this ADULT thing to my desktop. I deleted it but it left a spyware or virus on my computer now. This icon of a red circle and a white X in the middle on the botttom right of my screen showed up. I have no idea what it is. I can't get it out. Everytime I click it, it puts 15 icons on my desktop. The icons are all ADULT (nuaghty) stuff. And now while I am surfing the web sometimes it will automatically put me in a adult site. Like I'll click the SEARCH button on GOOGLE and then instead of the search results I get a page of naughty pictures. I tried using adware, Spybot. Can anybody help?

Is the prog in add or remove programs? Is there a rogue prog file in prog files?
If there are, delete them, then do a disk clean up to empty the bin properly & re-boot.

If you get the message, this prog cannot be deleted as it is in use, you may have to start your PC in safe mode & delete it that way, or disable it in msconfig, before you can delete it.

When you turn on your computer, keep tapping "f8" and eventually a screen will come up. After it comes up, select safe-mode and that's it.

If you don't have them installed, download the following:

Spybot Search & Destroy
Ad-Aware
Microsoft Anti-Spyware

Install them and restart, run them in safe mode. That should take care of it.

Hey I went to safe mode and it seems that the virus/spyware runs in safe mode too. The icon as I mentioned of a circle and a white X in the middle still appears at the bottom right corner of the screen. It also still puts icons on my desktop. (if try to delete the desktop icons, it reappears no matter how many times i delete them) I haven't run adware and spybot on safe mode but I am going to do it right now. I'll see what happens but the spyware/virus is running even in safe mode on its own so i dont know if I'll be able to delete it. Let me try and see.

sorry to say, but most likely you'll have to reformat and reinstall Windows to get rid of the problem. I just had a client machine with a similar problem, that red circle w/ a white x next to the clock. It also changed the desktop wallpaper to a .gif that said 'WARNING- SYSTEM IS INFECTED.' Had to reformat, as none of the spyware/virus removal tools I tried would get rid of it.

Have you solved your problem?
If not:
try scan your system with online scanner:

What does it say?

Have a look at this and see if it's similar.

Reformat is a bit drastic methinks, the last time i had this system is infected message crap, it turned out to be a variant of coolweb search . try a copy of cw shredder see what that says. then do as others have suggested using adaware spy bot or my favourite at this time spysweeper. Panda on line scan is usually a good online scanner for all this crap. bt this is especially usefull IMO. I think u will find it has put a hidden file in the registry that will keep it coming back but theres no way i would reformat IMO thers always a way
