HELP ME PLEASE
I SAW IN EBAY THIS DUDE THATS SELING A FIRMEWARE AND THAT FIRMWARE IS FOR: the firmware has been modified to provide the lp (3hr) record option and also change the region setting to region free and to disable the other so you can make unlimited backups of your purchased dvd's or vhs tapes.
And this guy is selling this for like 50 dlls i mean thats cruel but i want to know if i can put my dvd recorder in region free and thats all how can i do this ¿?¿ HELP ME

The firmware hack is something you can do yourself to get the 3-hr mode and disable macrovision. The person selling this on E-bay is a ripoff. Region Free can be gotten by pressing the setup button, highlight "Exit" (do not press OK or Select, just highlight), with "Exit" highlighted, press 2, 9, 6, 0. A new menu will pop up on screen where you can select the region of the recorder, including region free.

Wow thanks a lot man i realy apreciated but i did not understand you when you told me how i can use the 3hr mode? can you take me step by step? i realy ipreasheated friend! the region free worked great! but i cant get the 3 hr mode still

Gtrman i have done the hacking, but with no luck my serial number is 0102-1840-0098-g2bd http://www.liteonit.com/DC/english/download/index.asp and thats the page i download it it from, but i just found out that muy brother just recently udpated the firmware about 4 weeks ago but how can i get the 3 hr and microvision stuff¿? the region code worked corecctly but no eforts on th 3hr and mircovision! ¿? help please! i would happly donate $$ if works, were half way there man dont give up thank you!

Ok I thik now one has the late'st clue about what i've just said i have the latest firmware allready installed in my dvd recorder model LVW-5005, i have the pagie and i download the program and burn it in a cd, and then stick it in the dvd and nothing happens i think thats because i already upgreaded it i think so? my question is how in the hell can i re-patch my DVD without loosing he firmware and having the 3 hr recored system and the microvision??? please help me! i know that i can go to the paige and download the firmware but my dvd dosent do anything!! because i have already patch it!!!! thanck you!!

and something else i have a 160gb hard disck drive in no use i have no use for this hdd can you tell me to if i can open my dvd lite-on LVW-5005 and place this hdd so i can recored on this hdd or on the dvd-rw or on any cd? can this be done? and if it can would it be easy to do!?

The smart firmware hacker is to add code to the original firmware. You do not put it on a CD. You need the original firmware file you downloaded from LiteOn AND the Smart Firmware Hacker (ilohack.exe). Run the ILOhack program. It will ask you where the firmware file is you want to hack. Point it to the file you downloaded from LiteOn. It will hack the file and create a directory called "Hacked" and put the new updated file in it. Burn the hacked firmware file to a CD and upgrade with it instead of the original one. This will disable MV and add LP 3-hr mode.
Remember, firmware updates REPLACE the installed firmware, not add to it. Every time you do a firmware update, it erases what's there and puts the new code in it's place.
You can not add a HDD to the LiteOn 5005. It has no connections for it and the chipset will not recognize a HDD.

... You really don't need the macrovision hack with the LVW-5005 ... What I do is get the DVD to a menu screen then start my recorder and let it run for about 15 seconds, then start the source DVD and voila! it duplicated just fine ... You can do the same thing with a VHS .. just start the tape, pause it and start your recorder ... 15 seconds later, start the tape and that nasty old macrovision has been licked again! ...

Morrisonx, you will soon no longer be classified as a newbie by the system!
You have done exactly what you're supposed to. Keep on trying with the CD you made (power off, reinsert, etc., etc). This should do the trick. If it does not, try burning another CD. The machine seems not to like your CD but it may just be kidding. It's a woman, you know.
"Data disc" is exactly what it said to me a few days ago when I hacked the machine for the first time. CD-RW first, then a CD-R, then same message, power off, reinsert, etc., etc until the machine was finally happy.
It's a woman, you know!

It's been said that you have to reset to the Lite_Ons (using system option) defaults before it will recognize the CD and do the upgrade.

... @Gtrman .. About the 3hr hack ... Does it give you 2hr (720x480, 5.1Mbps bitrate) or 4hr (352x480, 2.5Mbps bitrate)resolution? ... If it gives you the same resolution as the 4hr recording mode, it wouldn't make any sense to apply the hack ...

At 3-hour speed 352x480, 3.3Mbps bitrate. It makes sense to do the upgrade for the bit rate.

Hey everybody! I have a question. Does anybody have or know how to switch the recorders format from DVD+VR to DVD-Video? I spoke to Lite-On techinical support and they said that the recorder was mechanically capable of doing it but that the firmware isn't configured to do it. He also implied that it could be possible as well as DivX playback with a firmware hack. Any ideas?

If you go to www.liteonit.com it tells you that they do support div-x & which drivers to use , but not where to download them from ! Dumb Eh !

catfreak- Once again your wisdom shines like a lighthouse beacon !!! ordered the Liteon -5005 from Newegg ! It is in Dallas Tx. according to UPS soon to be winging or rolling its way Home to daddy! So as you might guess I been reading and researching the Liteon 5005 both on afterdawn.com & elsewhere on the web ! and your non-hacked solution to the macrovision problem is genius , Achem's Razor in action - all things considered the simplest explanation is usually the best or right one /answer! Also I understand region coding ! But in the Lite-on 5005 if you set it for region free it mainly means that other people in different region could play your burns correct ? That would assume that they also have NTSC players & telly's right ? And also that any dvd you played on the 5005 would have to be NTSC no matter what region ? Or am I missing something here ? My point is that most counties use different TV systems PAL , SECAM, NTSC ...Ect. Not that I have access any amount of foriegn DVD's it's just more of an Inquiring minds wanna know thing ! once again catfreak thank you for being so smart ! Happy Burning & HaPPY HOLIDAYS !!!!!!!!!
