I understand it is illegal to download DVD movies from the internet and you will be prosecuted for doing so. Question: How can someone be prosecuted if he/she makes copies from DVD from libraries, how can it be proved this?. Are libraries suppose to turn names of people that check out DVD's?, same question applies to rental places, like Wal Mart, Blockbuster, etc.

Thanks,

Yeah, I here ya buddy. I live way up in Canada, and I was at the video store renting DVD's.

So as usuall, I pick out all the new releases I like. And I get this weird feeling like I'm being watched or something.

I unsuspectingly peruse around and notice out of the corner of my eye, two rather large, clean-cut gentleman in dark suits, sunglasses and little wires going up to thier ears.

Well, I was a little concerned, one seemed to be approaching me on an adjacent aisle.

He passed me by seemingly looking at this other guy with a lot of DVD's. I couldn't believe it, on his coat by the lapelle a badge,
Team Canada DVD Police.

Well, I just about soiled myself, I put my movies back on the shelf, and high-tailed 'er out of there never to return again.

Seems funny but a buddy of mine told me that a friend's roommate was picked up by the police and has been in jail for the last 4 months because he was caught downloading movies from the internet. Now, this is real and not BS. This happened in Florida

Well, as long as you don't get carried away (or make it obvious that your doing that) with it if you do at all (I advise you against it).
Also, its illegal to do that (rent movies and burn 'em) so don't.

Peace,

Pop Smith

I agree with Pop_Smith on that for sure, I live in Canada, and download anything and everything (Absolutely no Porn of any kind)
and have never had any problems, but the day will soon come when it will be illegal here too.

Our ISP's aren't allowed to disclose to any entity what I do with my internet connection.

However, moderation is the key.

Why would libraries, WalMart , BLockbuster, Hollywood Video be required to turn in the names of everyone that rents /buys a VHS/DVD? that would be a HUGE amount of work not to mention a sickening invasion of privacy and civil rights.

I believe Blockbuster has in place its own internal system for keeping tabs on suspected rent and burners. I should know, I rent from BB rip the dvd take it back tell em it wouldnt play and to gimme another dvd or Im taking my business to Hollywood. and yes I know its illegal but IDGAF , its alot faster and safer that dling dvds off the Net. so dont lecture me on what Im doing is illegal cause you'd be beating a dead horse.

The only suspect ppl Ive ever seen @ BLockbuster, Hollywood Video and Walmart are usually the undercover dectectives on the lookout for shoplifters and / or corporate quality controls agents. these CQCA will randomly stop into various stores , room around all the while making notes of employee assistance, cleaniness of the location etc. Blockbuster has this happen so often its become their own nightmare lol
