I want to build a computer with some decent speeds and built in applications that I will use for back up copy's of my media disks, surfing the web, developing and updating website, editing video and photos, and word processing. Gaming is not an issue or desire.

I see on several sites that are offering refurbished components and components at clearance. I am interested in only refurbished motherboard and perhaps video cards to help save money. I want a mother board with builtin gigabit Lan and sound. I had a friend that said I should atleast consider refurbished computer componets because you could really save money any the itme may only be refurbished because of one faulty part of that component. For example if I get a refurbished board, it may have been refurbished because of defuncted LAN, or the onboard sound card had to be fixed or one of the pci slots was at fault. Also that sometimes items are posted as refurbished because they were returned and can't be sold as brand new.

My questions are have any of you seriously considered or even purchased a refurbished or clearance computer component? If so, were you satisfied? Is there any way to find out why that product was refurbished. Do you guys think this is a good ideal. Just seen a MSI refurbished 20gb personal media player for under 240 dollars at newegg so that is what got me thinking.

I usually buy new parts but usually refurbished parts aren't too bad, especially if it's in a computer and you don't see it.
