yup, i used just DVD Shrink on it's lonesome. I haven't got AnyDVD yet but do use DVD Decrypter for the odd tricky film, however HOFD was fine with Shrink..

This is just my opinion!
But back in the old days progams like AnyDVD were concider TSR's (Terminate Stay Resident) and for the most part if they were not doing system or operating system interupts they were harmless. This is NOT the case with AnyDVD.

are you saying that AnyDVD should be shut down when not used? Because I've always got it running in the background and haven't had a problem yet.

@squizzle
if u dont have a prob dont worry bout it but sometimes it may play up...
thats y it was mentioned
e.g. i backed up a DVD today and i had AnyDVD and DVD43 in the background and it couldnt pick up the DVD @ all soo i closed them off then re inserted the movie and it worked like a charm with Decrypter and Shrink and CloneDVD2.
All in all it really depends on the DVD's programin

@forto,
HOFD is old news, there is no special protection about this movie. DVD Decrypter alone can "decrypt" and or bypass the protection code easily -- after that just use DVD Shrink to encode and compress the movie to your desire i.e. "full disc" or "re-author [movie only]", then burn/back up with DVD Decrypter again. These 2 combo works flawlessly. Below are some other good combos that can back up HOFD as well.
InterVideo Dvd Copy 3 with DVD43 running in the background
InterVideo DVD Copy 3 and AnyDVD
Nero Recode and AnyDVD
Nero Recode and DVDIdle Pro
Nero Recode and DVD43
DVD Shrink with DVD Decrypter or DVD43 or AnyDVD

AHA! That's why. AnyDVD and DVD43 don't like each other and if both are enabled at the same time they will clash. It's one or the other.

it's true, AnyDVD isn't quite a necessity (yet anyway), but it's still probably the best $40 I've ever spent. I love my AnyDVD ;)

i'm gonna have to go with squizzle, AnyDVD was a pretty good investement.
powered with DVD Shrink, undefeatable...
but Decryptor is still the greatest for 1:1 copies...
buts i don't use dual layer, i compress cause DVD-9 hasn't hit the fan yet, spindles unavailabe $12.00 a disk, so i gets me DVD-5, compress the f*cker and have a great working copy... :)

thanks squizzle
I have been using DVD43 almost exclusively. I never shut it down, so, whether it's ripping with Recode or Decrypter, it has always done the job "on the fly." I had one backup that ripped to 99% with DVD43/Decrypter (I know that's overkill) and then Decrypter kicked in after I got a message saying "this file should not be CSS protected" (or something like that) then Decrypter asked if it should do its "thing." I said yes, of course, but afterwards I shut down and restarted DVD43 and it has been business as usual since...
