Ok, I'm a real newbie when it comes to building PCs so forgive the entry-level question. I've just rebuilt a friend's machine with Win 98 SE but the display is stuck in VGA mode. How do I get it to offer higher resolutions ? Do I need to find out which display adapter it uses or something ? I'm really not sure of the relationship between monitor, adapter and device drivers.

You will need to find the type of video card and the appropriate drivers for it. Install those and you should be able to change resolutions.

More than likely not! Your best bet is to open up the machine and see what video card is installed write down the make and model number and then search on the net for an updated driver for the card by going to the manufacturers website. If the video is built into the motherboard then just get the make and model of the motherboard and do the same thing. You could check in device manager to see if your card is listed there, but I doubt it will be..

Good Luck :-)

That will work too.. Well sometimes it isn't always acurate and its not that hard to look at the card and figure it out anyway.. :-)
