P4 you are correct. I may not even have to dremel. I need 25mm of clearance. It will be close.

Ain't that VGA cooler a bit extreme for a 9550 i would have thought somtething along the lines of a Zalman vf700 would be more suitable, also that VGA cooler is kinda simillar to the one i use Thermaltake giant III http://www.thermaltake.com/coolers/chipset/a1919.htm it's a beast but it works darn well, striker68 try running 3dmark 03 you should be scoring around the 3.4k area

Yes it is a bit much but it's free from a friend. And hell, it looks cool. But not as cool as the Giant III. What a beast. As far as dremeling, I was only planning on trimming down a couple rows of fins close to the vga. We'll see. I have a back up heatsink just in case. ;)

can the heatsink come off easy as you don't want metal filings on the motherboard

yes the heat sink is removable, and I'm even thinking of installing a fan instead.

Yeah it's a beast alright and a fecking nightmare to put together, that 9000rpm is on the squirrel cage fan gets kinda loud what with a volcano 12 as well, you know your gonna lose a pci slot with that cooler & a NB fan would be a better solution rather than dremeling something to death ...try driverheaven.net for some modified drivers these should help out your 9550

Does anyone have an idea of a safe overclocking range for my Radeon 9550? Default is 250/200.

Do you know what the max is? It's kinda hard for me to say coz it's not me doing it, increase it bit by bit till you see Artifacts and test it using 3dMark.

remember any problems reduce it right away

On the ATI OC tool, there is a tab that says:Find Max Core and Find Max Mem. Do I run those to find max for both? Is this safe to run without my vga cooler installed.(currently stock heatsink)
