Hey!

Can anyone help? I am running Azureus through a Zoom X3 router and Zone Alarm 5.5 Free edition. My torrent downloads and uploads tend to pick up seam gradually from a bumpy 5-6 kb/s to about 30-40 kb/s. Then, after about an hour everything dies and I am disconnected from my 'swarm' and left with red faces.

I have fiddled around with the number of simultaneous upload and download connections and still it's a problem. Any ideas anyone?

It seems connections I make with peers in my swarm are not sticking. I just watched every one member of the swarm drop off one by one until I was left all alone...

Can anyone diagnose this problem? Cheers...

Hello my friend,

Torrents are a tough thing to learn. I came from just using p2p software and it look me a long time to get use to doing torrents for my file sharing needs. What i did in terms of speeding up my torrents download speed is sadly taking off my router. I tried various port forwarding methods and what have you and it never works. Is taking down the router and option?

Not at the moment - unless there are other ways to have 2 computers in one house connected to Broadband...? I am a novice at these things.

No there isn't my friend. Did you try port forwarding. Also what you are downloading the speed of your download is based on what you are sending as an upload. Are you limiting that in anyway?

Hey! Port forwarding has been set up using configuration posted on portforward.com. When I test my port on Azureus I usually get a NAT error until things start downloading then it tells me everything is okay.

I've been told that I need to limit my number of connections up and down so that I don't overload the system:

max simultaneous outbound connection attempts: 1
max global upload speed: 40 kb/s
max global download speed: unlimited
Default max uploads per torrent: 4
Max number of connections per torrent: 20
Max number of connections globally: 80

I have over-ridden some of these values on the individual torrent's advanced settings so that torrents are only uploading at a combined maximum of 10 kb/s.

Shed any light on the issue?

What is the specs on the connection you are using? Cable or DSL? What is the max upload and download? Do you have any caps put in place by the isp on how much you can upload and download?

Well let me explain...512 kbs is equal to about 51.2 k in downloading terms. So you have already maxed out. Oh well I have a 1500k connection here so i am lucky :-)

dont be greedy and limit the upload speed,Azureus is not stupid, and limiting the upload speed will decrease the download speed

by using Azureus,on a 512 conection you should achieve a max of around 50 kb/s,with an upload of about 20.
thats on a single download, obviously if you are downloading more than one thing at a time,it will decrease across the board.
but the max you see as stated above by nohelpme,is 50 kb/s

I'm moving out in a month or two - I'll look into it then. Can't be messing around with Dad's ISP - took him long enough to trust this strange router I installed onto his machine!
