Does anyone know why I cannot play burned Sony DVD+R media on my Toshiba RD-XS52? It plays other burned +R media (Fujifilm, TDK). There is an error message that the player shows onscreen, something to the effect that the disc is dirty or scratched.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

does your burner support booktyping if so try to set your dvd+r's to dvd-rom, this should help your disc play in most dvd players

Thanks. I'll try to set it. I just have a few Sony +R's that I burned and didn't check to see if they would play right away. I just wanted to avoid re-burning if possible. And I won't be buying Sony media again. Another friend of mine said that Toshiba and Sony "hate" each other.

Yes Sony and Toshiba are having a spat over the whole HD DVD and Blu Ray discs. I am suprised though that the Sony's won't play on your standalone. Sony usually makes quality media that from what I've seen is pretty compatable with alot of standalones. You can also try cleaning off those discs and see what happens.

Sony Media Bad? What works for some does not work for others I guess. Personally, I Love the New Sony Media! The "Accucore" ones. I have LG Multi-Format burners. I have backed up a lot of my movies using the New Sony Media. Not a single problem. I DO set my book type to DVD-ROM. The LG GSA-4120B supports this. The LG writers Love Sony Media & Verbatim, also TDK works very well too.I stick with the DVD+R Media. My player seems to like those best. But, for what it's worth, I Like the Sony Media. But not all writers are the same. As I said, what works for some does not work for others. My LG user manual specifies what Media it recommends, Mitsubishi Chemical is top of the list (Verbatim)I am not sure, but suspect that Verbatim subs for Sony. Surely Sony does not produce their own media!

Booktyping is already set to dvd-rom for my burner. At least it is w/decryptor. I'm not sure if DVD Shrink supports booktyping which is the program I use most of the time to burn DVDs. I don't think the Sony media is necessarily bad, it's just that my Toshiba DVD/HDD player says the discs are damaged. It's a bit frustrating, but I guess re-burning the movies will have to do.
