DVD sometimes wont open/work properley, please help......

Well ive just got an new motherboard fitted and noticed my primary drive out of the 3 i have, was not working, not even installed in device manager. I have a cyberdrive cdrw-+ writer, a standard dvdrom drive and a liteon dvdrw+- sohw 1213s dual drive. The strange thing is when i rebooted i saw the light registering on the dvdrw drive and its device name appeared. Still it wouldnt open when windows loaded. Then i rebooted and opened the drive when the light lite up, before windows had loaded on the first screen you see when your pc is turned on and it opened, kept it open until windows had loaded and it works fine - opens and close, writes,reads etc. Loaded some new firmware for it. Then rebooted and noticed if i dont open it on the first part of the reboot, it will not work. Whats going on?
