I would strongly recomend using either Bitlord 1.1 or Azureus 2.2,
I used to use Bitlord, However some good people here converted me over to Azureus (you'll need java installed for this one.)
As well, if the torrent you choose has <5 seeds it may be very slow.
Clients need to be adjusted, I run on port 55555, I'm on cable 3.5MBit conection, I currently got 2, 4 GB torrents coming in at 250Kb/s, over 100 seeds for both torrents.
Your upload speed will affect your download speed, don't leave your upload speed on unlimited, throttle it down and play with the settings until you acheive the best download speeds.
