Gonna build a whole new system but i have a bit of confusion though, wondering if u all could help me out. I've been contemplating buying an Xp 3200 Amd chip but i was reading tonight that it only equals a 1.83 pentium. and i am lookin for something that would equal an Intel 2.8 in the AMD line. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. bare in mind cost is regretably an issue for me :(

Hello Tmaxxfan I would have to agree with EYEShurt the amd64 is really fast and the prices are really resonable on the other hand if money is a real big issue than you might want to go with the amd3200. The AMD cpu's run very similar in speeds for example if you would choose the xp3200 it is said that they run like a 3.2 P4 well I hope some of this info helps

nice low price, but not really that great of a mobo/proc. those will become obsolete pretty quick, even for computer parts. i have an equivalent AMD processor in my computer, and at this point it lags a far bit. if you can afford it, shoot higher.

Tmaxxfan I agree its a nice price but I think if you have enough money to go to the amd64 it will well be worth it. My suggestion to you would be just do some shoping around newegg has good deals and there feedback is very good.

Hey guys this is the board I decided to go with along with a 7200 Rpm 200 GB hard drive and a Demon IV case with a 450 watt power supply . Just in case you might be wondering. Here is what i am upgrading from:

Gateway 2000 Intel Celeron 700Mghz processor
20 GB hard drive and 191 MB PC100 memory.

Please give me your opinions on the equipment i chose even though i didn't go for the athelon 64 lol thanks again guys :)

if you are gona be usuing it for gaming that prolly would not be the way to go infact it actually might be a cheaper route to buy a new pc without the monitor becuase you would be spending roughly the same amount and you could than actually get a amd64 and pretty much everything you have chosen in a pc already built its only a opinon but yea let us know what you are gona use the pc for

i have to agree with the previous posters; that mobo/proc combo is pretty weak. is this basically just going to be an internet/word processing machine? if you try to use that combo for anything more, you're going to be majorly disappointed.

the processor is not a true Athlon 3400+ XP...in reality, it is only a renamed 2600+ xp...shoot at least for a genuine 3000+ or higher, as anything below isn't really worth currently buying.

when you say "burning", you mean lots of encoding as well, right?

try getting a true 3400+ and a matching (decent) motherboard. it wont' run you that much and it will make a world of difference in your encoding times and in your general performance.

yeah this one AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 512K CACHE $159.99 is the one i have and i can do a movie in less than 25 minutes with Intervideo DVDCopy3. So go with at least the 3000. word is theres NO performance difference between the 3000 and the 3200
