Now I am not wishing to get sanctimonious here (well actually I just jump at the chance!) but here is an excellent tip:
Get off your arse enough to earn a measly $40 and purchase the software, so that you can do your legal back ups, the way god intended, Our friends at DVD2ONE can feed their children and will continue to provide the internet/computer community with more useful tools which benefit our lives.
If you don't have $40, maybe you should not be buying DVDs and then backing them up.
OK, well, I think it is dangerous (especially on a website visited by the members of 171 different countries) to get involved in a international incident. German or not, he is providing a utility the does not rip the software, or burn it from copyrighted material. His software is designed to squash big series of .vob files into a smaller space. How you got them, and what yo do with them are pretty much on your conscience. I would suspect that one or two people would have considered that this software could be used for piracy, but as it is, I do not think it is illegal software.
I would like to see small programmers like this flourish in this new age of the Internet, where the boundaries of business are changed forever. If they are squashed into the dust, then we behave similarly to the corporate giants who try to crush creativity. Every service requires payment of some sort. Would you rather he made his money using Spyware?
Perhaps I am just in a funny mood his evening.
Anyway, all I am saying is that these tools would not exist if it were not for someone spending his/her time to program them, which is better than writing viruses, or possibly than being German, but don't quote me on that ;-)

As for dvd2one, u obviously know nothing, it is legal and I would watch what you say regarding the author as he is involved on this forum and believe it or not what you have stated is liable for prosecution.
And on a final note:
If you are going to use this forum to slag other members off I am sure the MODERATORS would be only to pleased to kick you off.
I think you need to find a hobby that involves no people what so ever as your attitude seems a little blurred (TRY TRAINSPOTTING!!!)
