I've noticed that movies I copied to a dual layer disc (using DVD Decrypter iso read/write mode), some films have a problem right after the layer skip. So the movies work well, but right after the layer skip, the movie starts acting weird (frame skipping, just pauzing and even freezing). Once it reaches the next chapters, it's back to normal.

The DVD's are writte in DVD-ROM mode. Any idea what might be causing this?

after some more testing, I have found out this:

* the dual layer disc plays fine on my laptop
* when trying to read the burnt dual layer disc using DVD Decrypter in iso read, I get an error about 30% through (at layer change ?)

is this a problem related to my dvd player not being compatible with the media/way it's burnt (I have a Sony HX900 HDD recorder) or is this due to the media itself? (Platinum 2.4x dual layer)

It is probably the media you are using, can't say I've heard of "Platinum" thats a new one to me. Run it through DVD Info Pro and find out who realy makes that brand post the results for all to see. I have used Verbatim DL and the dreaded Memorex DL with great results from both. Try a different brand of DL discs and see how things turn out.

I would also suspect the media. Dual layer discs are still relatively rare, and the only brands I have actually seen so far are:
Verbatim, Ritek, Memorex, Samsung, and Piodata.

I know that a LOT of people over at the (former) DVDDecrypter site reported problems with the Ritek, and the Memorex. The consensus early on was that the only "safe" dual layer media was the Verbatim. I had tried a few of the Ritek, and they played fine on all of my DVD players, and so did the many Verbatim I had tried. Because of the reports I read over there, though, I have stuck with the Verbatim discs ever since, just to be safe. I have now burned 26 dual layer discs, most of them Verbatim, a very few of them Riteks.

The others I mentioned (Samsung, Piodata) were not around even two months ago as far as the dual layer blanks.

However, the one you mentioned is one I have never seen on store shelves, and I have never seen it available from any of the usual blank media dealers (Supermediastore, Meritline, Rima, NewEgg, etc.)

I would do some careful research, since the costs of these blanks are still so high, and stick to what others report as "safe."

As far as I know, if you are looking to use dual layer DVD+R discs, the answer so far is still Verbatim.

thx for the replies. I tried burning another movie (Matrix Revolutions) on the same media, but using CopyToDVD instead of DVDDecrypter and it seems to be working alright now. Could it be that DVDDecrypter has a problem setting the layer change correctly? I though I've read something about that here on the site, but can't find the thread about it.

mind that I live in Belgium, so maybe the brand I'm talking about it only available in europe. I buy the dual layer discs from www.cdrwinkel.com, I might try another brand in the future.

Nope. That is, so long as you are using the correct procedure (Use DVDDecrypter alone, no other programs, choose "ISO Read R" Mode, to rip, and then "ISO Write W" mode, to burn). If you use this, with the most recent version of DVDDecrypter, then the layer change is not being altered or changed or modified in any way. It remains precisely where it was on the original, and all of the various "tags" that refer to it remain the same. ISO mode means that you are creating an exact disk image of the original, so no modification is done at all.

Glad you got it to work.
