bf2 will play. maybe only on medium textures though.
should be able to turn most stuff up high i think.
more ram would help too with this game. 1 gig really is not enough believe me!

Bullshit I have an Ati Radeon 9250 and it won't work it just locks up after the intro movie so thats a lot of bullshit and if you got the same card upgrade or don't bother.

Am i missing something? How is your card the same as his?
There is a list around the web and on this site somewhere with supported cards. Is yours in it? If not there is your problem.
I apologise in advance if im confused...it happens a lot :-/

the 9250 does not support directx 9 does it? I don't think it does anyway and if so that is why it will not play battlefield 2.

I could be wrong, which isn't strange, but I believe the 9250 is DirectX 8.1
If the card has to be DX9 for BF2, then then yup, thats the reason.

its not to do with what version of directx is installed but to do with the shader effects used in the game which are not supported on the 9250 or anything below a geforce fx.
there is patch i believe that will allow the game to play on an older card but it does not work for online games.
