Alright so I've been burning games which do run but are rather sketchy (music wont load certain areas, hear clicking sounds in drive etc). Searching the forums I've read that ps2 v1-4 should use booktype dvd-rom to try n prevent these problems.

I'm using verbatim dvd-r disks with a Pioneer DVR-109 and just read in the large GT4 thread that someone mentions they have the exact drive I have and can't convert to dvd-rom (sigh). I haven't tested it myself cause I don't actually know where ot how to do it.

My questions are where can I see if I can set the booktype to dvd-rom? Can I try it on backups I have already made? If i'm not able to do it this way is there a way to work around it?

Also forgot to mention I'm using dvd decrypter and burning at 4x (which is the slowest my drive will allow with dvd-r). edit* Also have latest firmware.

Any advice would be most appreciated :)

booktyping is for DVD+R media not DVD-R.the reason alot of people booktype is to get DVD+R media to work on players that only read DVD-R.your backup problems may be due to your ps2 lens being dirty or more likely your burn speed.when you put the DVD-R into decrypter in iso write mode, check the supported write speeds of the disc in the disc info window.and see if you have the latest(and last)version of DVD Decrypter,it should be 3.5.4.0.i never understood why somepeople cant select lower than 4x myself.
