The LAN says limited connectivity or no connectivity and when I try to renew the ip address it says it can't connect to the remote DHCP server.

Have you ever connected to any other wireless access point before with your laptop?

Kinza I feel for you man!!

If your computer can access the internet when hard wired in then you need to look at your wireless setup a little more it is probably your wireless in the laptop. Also you should be on channel 6 this will work best :-) trust me...

Try uninstlling all the network crap from your lap top and reboot then let windows install it.. It should be pretty much automatic unless as scubabud is reffering you have another setup on your laptop it could be trying to connect to that setup? Also is your wireless adapter 802.11g? This is from your manual
Quote:
? To use the Wireless Access Point, all Wireless devices must be compliant with the
IEEE802.11g specifications.
That could be a problem I find it odd that this is all that router will support but that is what it says.

You could also try these trouble shooting tips
Problem 1: My PC can't locate the Wireless Access Point.
Solution 1: Check the following.
? Your PC is set to Infrastructure Mode. (Access Points are always in
Infrastructure Mode)
? The SSID on your PC and the Wireless Access Point are the same.
Remember that the SSID is case-sensitive. So, for example "Workgroup"
does NOT match "workgroup".
? Both your PC and the Wireless Router must have the same setting for
WEP. The default setting for the Wireless Router is disabled, so your
wireless station should also have WEP disabled.
? If WEP is enabled on the Wireless Router, your PC must have WEP
enabled, and the key must match.
? If the Wireless Router's Wireless screen is set to Allow LAN access to
selected Wireless Stations only, then each of your Wireless stations
must have been selected, or access will be blocked.
? To see if radio interference is causing a problem, see if connection is
possible when close to the Wireless Router.
Remember that the connection range can be as little as 100 feet in poor
environments.
Problem 2: Wireless connection speed is very slow.
Solution 2: The wireless system will connect at the highest possible speed, depending
on the distance and the environment. To obtain the highest possible connection
speed, you can experiment with the following:
? Wireless Router location.
Try adjusting the location and orientation of the Wireless Router.
? Wireless Channel
If interference is the problem, changing to another channel may show a
marked improvement.
? Radio Interference
Other devices may be causing interference. You can experiment by
switching other devices Off, and see if this helps. Any "noisy" devices
should be shielded or relocated.
? RF Shielding
Your environment may tend to block transmission between the wireless
stations. This will mean high access speed is only possible when close
to the Wireless Router.

thanks for your help guys, still not fixed though. I can't connect through the router to the internet from my pc. If I could get that to work again it would help. I went through Windows setup on the laptop and the laptop is wireless g so it is compatible. I don't know which settings to pick for the pc and laptop connection. The laptop connects when I chose that the pc and laptop connect through a residential gateway. How do I get the internet to work on my pc?

Wow, if only I could get you to answer a couple of questions, I might be able to help.

First, have you ever connected before to ANY wireless access point with your laptop.

Do you realize that both your modem and your wireless router have firewalls, and they don't like each other for the most part?

As I asked before and also mentioned by bbmayo, channel 6 might be the way to go.

Do you need to network or are you just trying to use your wireless router for an internet connection?

Well I called the HP support people, thank god I didn't get transferred to India. I tried resetting Winsocks and blah blah blah, he had me change the channel to 8(channel 11 before) still limited or no connectivity on the wifi on my laptop. He concluded that the router was defective. I'm not sure if he is right but I'll give it a try. I'm going to go to CompUsa today within the next two hours and exchange the router and see what happens. Hopefully that will work. I'll keep you guys updated. As for the firewalls I had all the firewalls disabled, I didn't even know there was a modem firewall, never disabled that. The tech support guy said something about MAC address for DSL but said the router was faulty most probably. I just got my laptop and did connect most of the time to the network I setup but the internet connection never worked. Somehow everything went back to before and none of the computers could access the internet from the router and the LAN was constantly on limited or no connectivity. I want both to share an internet connection and share files, but mainly the internet connection.

I was reading some reviews and here's part of one:

I am really so happy for you.. I was a little puzzled because they are pretty easy to set up and most people can have then up and running in no time. I have seen you around the forum so I knew that you know something about computers and werent a noob so it was a little puzzeling. I guess the router beeing bad explains it all..

Cheers :-)

ahh what a headache!! hey guys, haven't been on for a while but i definitely have a networking problem. i think its xp, but i still want to take the router and throw it out the window and burn it! its such a pain. everything was working fine a couple of days ago, suddenly the network just fell apart.

i can't connect to the internet unless hard-wired directly to the dsl box from one of the computers.
i can't connect to the internet from the host or client computer through the router.

i've tried system restores, reinstalling drivers and the network setup wizard. also tried to ping the other computer from both the client and host, does't work, request timed out. when i ping the router it works 100%. what's left? any help is RREEALLLYYY appreciated.
