Hey guys, I was thinkin of upgrading my AMD Atlon 2800+ to something better. MY MoBo is an ASUS A7V8X-LA. Can I upgrade to anything faster than Athlon XP 3200+, becuase I checked my manufacturer specs and it says "Core frequency up to Athlon XP 3200+". Any help/advice would be appreciated..

Hi Skidme -

What a coincidence! I just ditched my Athlon XP2800 + system yesterday and rebuilt an AMD 64 3500 system in the same case!

Basically, the Athlon 3200+ is as high as you can go with the motherboard you've got. Anything beyond that and you're into Socket 754 or 939 mobo territory. Of course it all depends what you want the system for & what kind of graphics you've got. If you're only doing light gaming I'd stick with the 2800 & think about my GPU. If you want heaqvy frame rates, then maybe you require a new CPU & a super duper GPU (and therefore a new mobo & maybe new RAM).

Me, I went from a setup that was OK for games:

XP 2800 +
Radeon 9600 XT
1 GB PC 2700
Asus A7N8X
etc

to one that is a LOT better for games:

AMD 64 3500
Radeon X800 XL
1.5 GB PC 3200
Abit AV8 3rd Eye
etc

BUT if I wan't doing so much gaming I would've stuck with the XP 2800 as it was a great CPU & rock steady for nearly 2 years.

Hope this helps,

Mike

P.S. My 3D Mark 05 score has gone from 1432 to 4627, but that is ALL graphics card boost, near enough.
