Hi Everyone,
I was using Shrink and the older version of Decrypter to burn DVD's and all was fine untill I had to restore my computer. I have installed all the same programs, even the older version of Decrypter, and now when I'm half way through, the write rate drops to zero and everything goes still. After about an hour the Error reads Semaphore time out expired. Usually I disconnect the drive, (a Sony DRX-700UL), before too lonf. I have only been able to create one DVD since this sh&^%t began happening, and am goind through them pretty good now. I can't figure out what the prob. is. Anyone else experiencing this? I have used SonyDVD+R and Memorex DVD-R with the same error.
I have the SP 1 installed and have updated the firmware for the burner. I have trieed disabeling all running program with msconfig and still no success. I have Norton AV Professional 2003 installed. Could this be a problem?
Any help would be appreciated.

I doubt Norton has anything to do with this one. I'd suggest trying better media. Memorex is usually complete garbage and Sony has mixed reviews. Try Verbatim with Super AZO Dye or Taiyo Yuden if you buy online.

Really? Have you experienced this error with sub standard medium? I never have and I've burned over 600 disc's. I think it may be in the settings for decrypter, but can't remember what the were set at initially. Should Burn Proof be on or off?
What about the other settings. What are yours set at?
Thanks
Don

I personally stay away from sub-standard media, so I don't have these issues, but I've seen other people have problems like this originating from media quality (or lack of). Media seems to be the cause of 90% of problems here.

Squizzle,
I believe you are right. Since the last post, I have tried aHigher quality DVD RW and it burned without flaw. So I went out and bought some (mediocre) Maxell DVD+R which I have used with success in the past. These were the best I could buy at this store BTW. I came home and threw one in and OHH Nooo. it failed at around 54%.
I put in another and it burnt fine. It seems obvious that it is the media. I will be visiting the SuperMediaStore.com soon for some Verbatim.
Thanks for the Help everyone.

I'd actually suggest Taiyo Yuden if you buy online over Verbatim, although Verbs are very good.

i 2nd what squizzle said, IF you are going to buy online ANYWAYS, especially from supermediastore.com; their Verbs are EXPENSIVE there...have a read around in the dvd-/+ media forum and there are TONS of Verbatim sales going around..and even OEM Verbatims from newegg for less than $30 shipped~! incredible deals.

but, if you insist on buying from supermediastore, i would suggest the Taiyo Yuden...they have competitive prices there and i personally prefer TY over Verbatim (only by a hair, but i have never been disappointed w/ GENUINE TYs)...good luck~ just thought i'd let you know to perhaps save you some $$ if you should decide to get some Verbs...the choice is yours..good luck~

Recommended Media:

Taiyo Yuden 4x dvd-r TYGO1/ 8x dvd-r TYGO2/ 8x dvd+r YUDEN000T02/ 16x dvd+r YUDEN000T03
Verbatim 8x dvd+r MCC003
Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups
