I keep syncing my Win XP Clock the right way but it wont keep time. I think the battery on my Mobo might be a cause. I dont really want to buy a new battery if I dont have to cause its $12. Has anyone ever heard of the battery causing the clock in Windows XP to lose track of time. The only reason I think this is because I had a G4 Mac a few years back and the system crashed just because the battery on the mobo was dead and the clock was off. I was wondering if it might be happening to my PC this time. Any ideas or suggestions.

Worse case scenario is that your RTC on your motherboard is failing.................

Maybe worth a BIOS flash to latest version (if you haven't already).

...............PIO is no go, DMA all the way...............

Whats an RTC? Its my older system I use for my LAN. Its a Gigabyte k7VTXH+ mobo with DUAL BIOS chips and it has been updated to the latest. Its three years old so I wouldnt doubt if something is dying. I dont have to have it fixed but its kind of annoying never knowing the time or having to look at a clock when I should be able to look down at my start bar. Well thanks for the help I will try a battery and see what happens.

RTC = real time clock, these are usually a seperate chip located on the motherboard, some have internal batteries and when they begin to fail you can experience similar problems to what you are getting.

These are built on the motherboard, and not contained within the BIOS.
That is why you can either alter it in the CMOS setup or in windows, as it is not a read only function.

Maybe you can help me with this other thing as well. Are there any free email clients out there that will allow me to access them through Outlook Express. I know Hotmail and Yahoo can but you have to pay for it. I was just wondering if there are any free emails out there that will allow you to do that. Thanks
