Just purchased BenQ 1640 at NCIX (Canada)...

Which specific media would you recommend for top quality? Also, +R or -R ? ... with reasons....

Do I need to DL anything from BenQ website?

Thx...

Any good quality, proven media such as verbatum, taiyo yuden, sony, fuji (made in japan) or maxell. I even had good results with prodisc R03. I recommend +r media since benq's are capable of booktyping +r/rw media to dvd-rom therefor increasing compatability with stand-alone dvd players.

If you got an oem drive which doesn't come with the booktype management utility software, you can download the app for free from benq. I would also check for any f/w updates.

No prob, it's just nice to know if our suggestions or advice was of any help.

I doubt you have any problems with those TY dvd-r's. I mainly use +r's to take advantage of their ability to be booktyped dvd-rom. I feel +r's are the better of the two formats but thats just my opinion. Here's a good read. http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/113
