Hey, my friend just has an intergrated videocard (built in mobo- stock/default)and he only has about $100 budget. I came across this card for him:
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.a...
First of all I was wondering, would this card be suitable for games such as DOOM 3, Far Cry, Halo, WoW, BattleField 2, and mainly Half-Life 2/CS: S. He's an avid gamer but lol he cant afford top of the line cards... The occasinal FPS lag wouldnt be a problem, but frequent would (of corse)...
Second, I didnt want to post a new thread almost simular to this so, Im just wondering for any of you who might know... If I were to purchase Half-Life 2 from retail stores (Future Shop/Best Buy), if I put that CD-KEY into Steam, would I also get Counter-Strike Source?
I know that I would get the original CS and DoD, ect. But CS: S?
Thanks in advance!

It would run the games, but you would have to play them on low quality & no Anti-Aliasing & no Anisoptric filtering. I would spend more money on a 6800LE GeForce. You will be a lot happier in the long run. I have Far Cry, with my FX5600 it ran OK. But with my 6800 the difference is simply amazing. The detail is superb.

well the 6800 was his first choice of corse, but he cannot afford to shell out 500 bucks. This is just his first card, and I no it would better to have the 6800 because it wouldnt be while until he would need a new one seeing as that card it almost top of the line, but how much is this 6600?

This is a decent card, but with games these days, settings would have to be med/low to play as already stated. I had the Fx5600, got frustrated and bought ATI 9550, and I play almost everything on high settings, OC'd of course. That card will run you 115 to 120 depends on where you buy.

The 6600GT http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.a... is a faster card than the 6800le http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.a... in standard configuration, but once the 6800le is modded/unlocked it becomes more or less a 6800GT, only thing is both cards are a bit more than double you mate's budget and the 6800le does not always unlock or at all to 6800GT levels , so get your mate to get a few more $$ together and then see what is available....both these cards are available in 256mb ....the card you suggested to your friend will work but gaming won't really be that much fun on games like BF2, farcry etc,etc.. Yeah you should get CS:source with HL2

thanks jonni for clarifying that the HL 2 will also give me CS: S, thats good to know. And thanks for everyone else's replies. I do know for sure that he has an agp slot. So I asked him if he would take a chance buying the 6800GT on ebay, he said he would... I found one for him for about 250 canadian. I just hope it is not a scam seeing how low the price is, but thats ebay...
Thanks again everyone!

I personally would NEVER buy an electronic item (especially a GPU) on ebay because you have no idea whether it works, and if its quite cheap it probably doesn't. The big computer retailers will do you a good price.

ONLY 600 dollars.
so how fast is yours in mhz then?
Compare your X850XTPE to my £292 ($510) card that i bought a whopping 10 months ago.
but that aside, you have one of the best monitors ever!

Gfx cards cost too much altogether, 1min it's the 6600gt then the 6800gt now the 7800...next week it'll be the 8800gt and the 6600gt will still cost far too much, sorry am ranting the 6800gt would work wonders with hl2 and the others and thats's not to mention when it's OC with the pixelpipes unlocked.
aye aye man

yeah looks cool, as always. You really can't beat a CRT for performance though, really... hence why i have one.
At the time it was half the price of a TFT. now it's more than one, but what the hey, 2048x1536 and 800:1 on a 19"? Sweet stuff indeed.

At a youthful 17 years of age (and not yet wearing glasses) i have a stupendous screen resolution even for windows desktop (most people say I'm amd, and i think i'm the only person who can read it...) but what really impresses me is that i've seen hardly any other monitors that pass TCO 2003 specification, which ultimately means that radiation is so low i shouldn't evnd up wearing saucers any time soon...
