I've posted this before but phrased it in a different way.
I have Shrink, Decrypter,AnyDVD, Clone DVD2, & Intervideo DVD Copy 3.
No matter what Program I use to copy a movie , my PC either freezes or will just shut down & then restart in the middle of either analyzing of writing.
When it does restart my monitor screen says.......
Hardware Monitor Found Error.
I then hit F1 and then windows does a disk check.
I was wondering if some was really computer savy that can help me out or suggest something.
I was able to burn fine for about a year now w/ no problems, till now.
Had problems burning The Pacifier, The Goonies, & Hitch.
One more thing I forgot to mention, I have an unauthorized copy of XP Pro. without any service packs on my computer.
I was thinking about buying an authentic copy of XP Pro. & reloading my OS.
Any suggestions????????

I'd run a virus check and spyware check first to see what turns up there.

I would back up all my softwares/programs on disc, then "reformatted" my computer all over -- however, that is if only you have Window XP on hand.

All above suggestion are good and I only want to add to them. You may also want to open up your computer and blow out all the dust bunnies and possibly replace your fans as your PC could be getting to hot while doing this process.
Cheers

Hi dabig25,
Are you having freezing / reboots only when you use video encoding tools ?
Are you sure you are not having HEAT issues ?
Those software are CPU intensive, and your PC may be getting to hot and reboots.
Seen it a few times...
My 2 cents worth !

tell you what, have a look here (well look thru this epic thread for any of my replies - i think there's 2 in there were i detailed what i did to get real good results; sorry it's easier than making a suggestion as AMD are buggers to keep real cool - i tried a few things (not overclocking like the other guys in this thread though) - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/26/101705 - but just trying to improve my overall temperature. i got mine sorted, unless it's a real hot day that is. which is real wierd as i live on a boat and the PC is on floor (ie under the waterline so should be cooler maybe)

If it's possible for you to run motherboard temperature software like abit EQ you can monitor all temps and voltages, this kinda tool could help. It may be possible for you to check these in Bios.
Good Luck

The fan seems it might be the fix, I've been able to burn 2 movies now w/ Shrink & Decrypter.
I had a big house fan aimed @ my tower & it worked. Later I tried burning the same movie without the fan on & it froze again.
Should I get a heatsink & fan or should I just get a case fan.
Does anyone have suggestions on good fans to get ??? & also I have an AMD Athlon XP 2700 processor on an Asus Motherboard, if that helps???????
So far thanks for everyones replies...............

sounds like airflow within your case is letting you down. either it's cluttered in the case, obstructing the airflow/and or lots of hot components etc. see if this helps -
My case fan is a ys-tech (have a look on www.overclockers.co.uk (for ideas) going full speed all the time (ie not connected to variable speed sensor on motherboard) - this sucks out a lot of air out back of case. for the CPU fan/heatsink, i have an Igloo 2421 as the heatsink and it's fan is the original lower-specced Igloo fan that came with the heatsink. (as i say, i've experimented with the fans in that thread i mentioned before. i could only achieve so much due to having a tiny case.
you may laugh but air-con in one of our computer rooms is a bit crap so we have a normal tall room fan behind our main Production server helping with the airflow 24/7 so it's doing the same thing as your fan in front of your case :)
see my sig for the temps i'm getting on average, though it increases if it's a hot day. Basically it depends on the size of your case and the amount of noise you can tolerate if you have a Boeing 747-sized heatsink combo like most of the guys here - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/101705

creaky thanks
where I live it's been very hot around 90-100 degrees.
My PC is upstairs so it gets very hot & warm in the room it's in.
I have a normal sized tall tower for my PC.
It's got 2 hard drives, DVD rom, DVD writer, & 3 sticks of 512 DDR memory in it.

yeah one of my last pc's was in a monstrous supermicro sc-750a - like an aircraft hangar, had 12 to 14 fans in there. cooling was great but it sounded like a wind tunnel. if ever i move back onto dry land i'll probably build a monster pc in that case. at the moment the case is acting as ballast at back of boat :)

I know it hooks up to the motherboard, but where ??
& where should it be mounted in the case.
Sorry, I know these aren't typical AD questions......

it'll either be a 3pin (tiny connector) or a bigger, 'standard' connector. i think they're called Molex connectors...there's a start....

Okay, figured it out........
Installed case fan, tried burning a movie & it freakin' froze again.
Should I now get a better fan for my processor?????? It currently has the stock fan that came w/ the processor ( AMD Athlon XP 2700 ).
Or any other fans for the inside of the PC???

Hi there,
HEAT problems (CPU intensive problems) was just a idea I throught out there.
He might be having OS issues also.
Because a PC freeze doesn't always mean heat problems.
But I did asked him if those problems only occured when encoding/decoding video files, which ARE cpu intensive.
I sure hope he didn't spend all that money, just to find out his problems were OS related !!!

I didn't spend much money at all yet......
I'm saving up so that I can buy a new OS.
Problem only really occurs during burning, as mentioned before I was able to burn fine when I placed a house fan in front of the tower while burning so that's why others suggested that it could be a heat problem.
In a few weeks I'll go out & buy a better CPU fan as well.

@dabig25 - it's still worth reading thru that link i posted for you, as AMD's stock fans are very good. unfortunately i didn't buy a stock fan and was limited with the choice of aftermarket heatsink/fan combo's i could buy due to my case being so teeny, and have regretted not having a stock fan. but if you've got room for a heavy duty fan/much louder fan then check the link i posted..

I'm gonna go out & buy a CPU fan.........
What do you think of Zalman or Thermaltake fans ?????
I don't want to spend more than $20 - $25 US dollars.
