Yeah I hope my lite-on will whisper sweet nothings to the TY's I just bought.

And in return my apex will play them too. I think my TY's will just be happy haha!

bilg25,

I doubt you have any problems with those ty dvd-r's but something to keep in mind, your litey is capable of booktyping DVD+R media to dvd-rom (the most compatable format with stand-alone dvd players). Most of us in this thread bitset (booktype +r/rw media to dvd-rom) and I think even creaky is starting to come around (could be wrong about creaky).

I caved too and bought some +R Verbs, and my old Toshiba is just eating them up, it makes life so much easier. Except now I got to use up a few hundred -R disks. Oh well better start doing a whole lot of backing up.

bilg25,

Here's a couple good reads regarding +r media and bitsetting.
http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/150
http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/113

There is a link to the free lite-on booktype utility and guide here http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=83441 You can go ahead and download it and read about it. It will have no effect on dvd-r media.

I'm not sure I understand what that means. Remember I'm a yank.

hehehe mort sir, you know me all too well~ :)

i have 4 diff. burners that i use currently (for desktops) pioneer dvr-109, sony dru-710a, nec 3520a, and the lite-on 1633s. :) laptop i have the nec 6500a and this other sony 4x burner that came OEM on my Dell lappy~ :)

Mr. Mort was the one who got ME all into booktyping~ :) i followed HIS lead in that dept. and have never looked back...thanks buddy~ :)

i usually use DVD+R media now...while i do the occassional DVD-R, it's becoming less and less frequent now...

blah blah blah...ok...it's too hot here in CA~ i need to take an ice shower or something...gonna pass out~

kivory,

No thanks necessary. Only trying to help out whoever and whenever possible. I've had great success with bitsetting and am only trying to spread the word.

@creaky

Now that english I can understand.

Ok a question then. If you are bitsetting a +r do you still have to have a dvd player that plays the +r media or wont it matter?

Should not matter, those standalones that only play -R will see the disk as this format. As stated above my Toshiba only plays -R and now that I have drives that booktype it plays the +R format fine.

to add to arniebears' suggestion, yes, it won't matter only because when you booktype it changes the DVD+R to dvd-rom, which is compatible in pretty much ALL stand alone dvd players~ :) regardless if your dvd player can read DVD+R or DVD-R, the issue is not even presented when reading dvd-rom :)

To add to arniebears and kivory's replies, a new pressed store bought or rental dvd is dvd-rom format.
