I'm trying to burn a menu-based DVD (total size 6.6 GB) onto a dual layer Verbatim DVD+R.
Once the burn commences, the approximate time left clock rises to 36 mins. However, the overall burn progress only ever reaches 51%. The time runs out. Then nothing.
The time left clock remains stuck with one second remaining; the total elapsed time continues to increase.
The DVD-RW drive light stays on, and for a while, the hard drive light stays on, occasionally flickering before giving up.
Nothing changes until you cancel the burn. The DVD drive light stays on, and I can't eject the disc until I power down the computer.
I have:
Athlon 3500 processor
1024 MB RAM
Sony RW DW-22A
I know that I could always export the DVD to the HD and use different software to actually burn the disc. But, having splashed out the cash to update from DVD Architect 2, I'd like to get it working properly.
I'd be very grateful for any help. Any ideas?

Hi there,
What firmware does your burner have ?
BYS3 seems to be the latest one for your drive, but can't seem to find it on the net just yet.
VSO Inspector v1.1 or DVDInfoPro can provide you with your drive firmware.
These days, all the new firmware released are mostly to improve compatibility with all the Dual Layer Media out there.
Were you ever succesfull burning those DVD+R Dual Layer with that drive in the past, with an other software ?
Other people have the same drive as you --> http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/tm.asp?m=94434&mpage=1𗗽

Thanks for the info.
I downloaded VSO Inspector and it seems that my firmware is BYS1.
So it seems an update is in order.
I downloaded from the above link, but I really don't know what to do with the file. I guess I need to be talked through it.
Sorry for being a bit clueless. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there,
Usually, most firmware flash is a 1 click button.
Open the software, select the firmware file, select your burner and hit FLASH.
That's in general, but each company has their own way of doing things.
Check if there's a readme file.
Worste case, open up the program .EXE or .COM and see, there must be a menu/options. See what's available !

Just click and open the file, it will install itself and you can proceed to flash your drive.

I've installed the firmware using LtnFW.
Will get burning again, and let you know the results.
