I just noticed that Roxio has a dvd copy software called Roxio Easy DVD Copy. It looks like a pretty decent software but there is no trial to see how well it performs, does anyone know anything about it?

If you don't have it already - get Nero. It blows Roxio away imho.

Roxio used to be a good burning software but it raised havoc with my computer! Once I uninstalled and took out every reference to Roxio from my computer (reistry and ini files) my computer went back to normal! I haven't used Roxio since Easy CD creator #5-------that's yearsssssssssssssss ago!

Easy cd creator 5 was the best thing roxio ever came out with. I still used up until recently when I got Nero. I've tried a few other roxio products and they all suck. Nero is the best way to go for anything that has to do with burning.

Nero Baby!!!

I just got the oem version 6.0.0.21b but it works great.I'm waiting to get Nero recode 2.

Roxio can be a pain in the a** when you try to remove it. I still have remnants of cd creator 3?-I believe, on my spare pc that the last guy had.The roxi-zapper couldn't even remove them. It's not giving me no problem, except a window pops up everytime I turn that pc on.

I've got sonic my dvd on this new HP,Nero also blows it away.Sonic takes 20 mins to rip/burn on the fly.My Nero does it in 15 minutes. Both at 4x burn speed.

saugmon you get a pop up every time you start Windows, is it by chance a Windows Installer window? If it is I used to get the same pop up window.

I get the small pop up on the lower right side of the monitor. It says:

Devices or applications disabled
'CD recording software' will cause windows to become unstable.
Windows has prevented these drivers from loading

After clicking here for details:
Easy cd creator. It could be causing problems with either windows media player or real jukebox.

That spare pc is only a celeron 598 mhz, windows xp home-sp1,256 mbs of rimm,9 gig main hd,29 gig extra hd. She burns dvds sweet on a benq 1620, and the speed is surprisingly quick compared to my last athlon 3000+ and present 3300+.Not very much slower, unless I use the enhanancements of DVD Shrink - that's where the processor speed really shows up.

i was a huge fan of Easy CD Creator version 3 and 4, before it was named Roxio. However version 5 (Platinum i think it was called) was unstable as a 2legged stool and i wasn't the only one who thought so. Then i discovered Nero, think it was version 4something, maybe early 5something. And not looked back since, other than to see the nonstop hassle that others have with Roxio.

it's been over 4 yrs now since I used Nero and got rid of Roxio and it's the best decision I ever made! My friends thought I was nuts but soon found out that I was right! Nero took over and I too never looked back, content with good burns and easy way of doing it! Nero still rocks!

alot of Roxio problems can be caused by the drag to disc program ,which caused me a headache till i figured it out .

nero is def. the way to go it updates (roxio doesnt) and theres so much more you can do with Nero compared to roxio

one thing that can cause problems in Nero is "IN CD" so i deleted it

best thing Nero could do is offer Recode2 as a seperate software at a reduced price, that would be great for our application...

If you remember, Roxio bought Adaptec's "Direct CD" format technology. From my Easy CD Creator v5 Platinum and before days, I have 100-200 data (jpegs mostly) CD's finalized in the "Direct CD" format rather than finalized in the later Roxio "Make playable on most CD Players & Drives" data format.

I dumped Roxio long ago and haven't had Easy CD Creator installed on any of my recent machines.

My Question: I want to transfer those old jpeg CD's to DVD -R blanks. WILL NERO READ the "Direct CD" finalization format and convert them onto my HDD and can I can burn them to DVD-R (or even CD's again) also using Nero ?? Or do I have to install Easy CD Creator again to read all those 100's of disks in Adaptec's old format??

Thanks
Whisperer

You guys may not know how to use Roxio's EsayMedia Creator. Any dvd ripped to my HDD can be quickly and easily put oan a 4.7 gig DVD-R or +r disk. Just use the 'Copy DVD' option. Choose the 'Advanced' tap. Select the 'Disk image or DVD-Video Folder'. Click on 'Select' browse to the DVD folder on th HDD and clcik. With a DVD-R or +r disk in the drive press burn and walka way. This function both burns the DVD movie to the disk and sizes the file appropriately. So the folder has 7 or 8 gig. Huh? Never mind. The file is will be perfectly fitted to the size of the disk and you will have a good movie that will exactly fit the disk without problems. Iso files are created by chose a file in a format such as AVI or MPEG or waht is compatible. Choosing the 'Burn' function then the 'Advance' button. Deselect all bulls eyed functions choose "save image to disk' and select or create the file name in the box then go to the next step which instead of buring will save an image ISO file on the HDD where you selected. Use Alchol 120% to mount the image and go through the steps I laid out earlier choosing the virtual drive as the souse 'cause the movie is there. Beats the pants off Nero, which I find to be user unfriendly.

By the way, EasyMedia 7.5 is the best they have ever had. Even is Roxio now has the label.

roxio is the software division of adaptec. i use roxio 5 plat. with no problems as i don't do dvd's just cd's. it is user's choice on which is the best burning program to use depending on their system, os & media burnt to. to each their own!!

Roxio is a division of Sonic Solutions, at least according to their website. For the Easy Creator suite, there is a trial download at http://www.download.com in the software section.

In the past, I've used Roxio and was pleased with it. A lot of recording suites had batch writing apps that cause interference problems, Roxio's Drag to Disc was one of those. Nero had the InCD. I don't believe that is part of the latest downloads. I got rid of InCD some time ago and stopped downloading it.

You're right though, "to each their own". That's why there's so many options available on the market. Familiarity with a program that works for a person often means more than how good it actually stands up against another app in tests. Sonic has a good track record and I found no more fault with the old Roxio burner apps as with others. The problems I had were shared by both Roxio and Nero. However I must admit, according to a bunch on the forums, some of the Roxio drivers interfered with their operating systems. I still tend to think it was more likely software interference as the PCs I've used have been pretty much run of the mill units with Pentium processors and chipsets.

One of the things I noticed, larger capacity PCs, with larger processors, more RAM, and larger hard drives, suffered fewer problems. Sort of made me think the software didn't like playing in confined spaces. LOL But that holds true in most cases. I'm lucky enough to have a large system I haven't needed to fill up yet and I've been able to use most software without problems.

BTW, if I'm looking at it correctly, the Easy Creator suite is like many of the other recording suites and the Easy DVD Copy is a transcoder like the others we use for transcoding DVDs onto smaller capacity media. So, it's a new offering. The older Roxio, which is what most call the Creator burning suite, didn't transcode.
