Does bearshare's adware linger around even after you uninstall bearshare or will I need to search my computer for any "leftovers" and clean it out? Is the Save! software they use pretty harmless and mostly just annoying?
I know virtually nothing about p2p, bitorrent, and all that stuff. I've been using Shareaza for a few days and only been able to dl one song which took almost 2 hours. Is this common for a program like that? Would bearshare be any faster? Thanks.

Hey Dude. Wow 2 Hours, That's A Long Time For One Song, What Is Your Connection Speed? The Save Sh1t is not dangerous at all its just adware. i am not sure if it is fully wiped out when you delete it, it depends how you go about it. You should un-install it and then run your spyware/adware cleanup to get rid of anything that may remain. No, is not common to have to wait 2 hours to dload a song. do you run broadband? If You Tell Me your connection speed, then i will be able to help.

Peace

Hey what exactly are you trying to put in there the pic of the girl?

If so here http://images.killermovies.com/m/movies/keira_knightly.jpg
now try it.

Now for your question, what connection are you on?

And If you decide to go with Bittorrent Azureus is a good one to go with once you get used to it,its pretty easy to use.

And for songs i would probably use limewire. :)

I have a broadband connection. Pretty much everything I do on this computer has been satisfactorily (is that a real word?) fast. I'm not sure about the actual speed. How do I find it? Like I said, I'm a layman at this kind of stuff. I tried limeware but got confused about how to set my firewall or ports or something! This stuff is like another language to me! I don't know anything about bittorrents or how they are different from p2p or how you use them together. I would like to find a good, free site that is easy for the newbie to use yet doesn't have snail speed downloads. One that maybe would automatically set up/install most of what I would need to get going. Am i being unrealistic or is this possible?

Here is a guide to use Azureus.
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/guide_to_azureus.cfm

And to search for the downloads you want use, its fairly easy to use just type in what you want and there will be a list to choose from.

Got a couple q?s about torrenttyphoon.com. Let's say for example, I type in Pink Floyd. The list comes up. Then do I click on the link to the left of the title or do click on the title itself (for example, "Pink Floyd, The Wall")? When I do either one, am I actually downloading that album? Is that all there is to it? If so, it's much easier than I thought!

Well you click on the title then it will take you to another page and it will say either download/download this torrent/etc. then it will ask where to save the torrent choose where you will rememeber it then open Azureus. Then hover your mouse over the icons near the top left corner and one will say "open a torrent. (no deafault save)" then click that open your torrent and select where you want it to be saved and then click save. Then it should start downloadin. please let me know if you have any trouble :)

Well, I tried everything according to your instructions and downloaded an album but when I click on it to play it, WMP opens up and I get this error "The file is already in use. Close other programs that might be using the file, or stop playing the file, and then try again." What does that mean?

Hey fishbulb. Shareaza should run much faster than that. If you are behind a router or running a firewall you must get everything setup right or you will have very poor results with Shareaza. They have instructions and articles on how to set up port forwarding with a router and firewall settings for various firewalls. If you have more than 1 computer hooked up to a router you must configure it for a dynamic IP address when you set up port forwarding. Once you get it right you will get great search results and speeds on your broadband. At times I can get well over 200mb download speeds with Shareaza.

@jpbsarris
So should I just use Shareaza by itself and configure the settings like you were saying or do I need to use it w/ a bittorrent or something like that.
Have you tried Bearshare? Would you recommend Shareaza over Bearshare?

I hate to run Bearshare because of adware crap that is bundled with it. There used to be a Bearshare lite that had no crap ware but I'm not sure if it has been updated in a while. Shareaza has no crap ware with it. It seems to run best for me using the default Gnutella 2 network. You can change it to run using the eDonkey2000 or Gnutella 1 network but I had slower downloads with them. The default settings usually run OK with it. Are you connecting behind a router or firewall? If so read this link.

In an earlier post I told you wrong (brain fart). You want to set up a STATIC ip address not a dynamic. Windows is set up by default to use a dynamic ip address. When you restart your computers your router will assign them an ip address in the order that they start up. If you have more than 1 computer behind the router they will not get the same address every time if it is configured to a dynamic ip. Port forwarding opens a certain port to a certain ip address. You must configure your computer to always use the same ip address (static ip) that is setup in the router.

So did you open the file in Azureus? Did it finish downloading? And did you fully shut down Azureus (Right click on the pic of the Azureus icon in icon tray, bottom right corner and click exit) ?

Yeah, I did all that, best I can remember. I've tried playing it again and still won't play. I know this stuff is easy for most of you guys but it's like a foreign language to me. All this stuff about ports, routers, torrents, static ip's and dynamic ip's. I'm not crazy about changing settings in my computer I know nothing about just to download a few songs. I'm always afraid I'll unknowingly screw something up that I don't know how to fix.
