i used to have the DD1205, which was the 12x Optorite burner, i had NOTHING but problems with it about 3 months after i bought it...got an RMA on it but naturally, they sent the same piece of crap drive to me...worked again for about 6 months this 2nd time around..then died again. i just got soo frustrated after that i swore to NEVER use optorite drives again; PERSONALLY, i feel they are inferior in build quality and would strongly suggest you get a GOOD burner from plextor, pioneer, nec, and for me, sony too~ :) i own 4 different drives: pioneer dvr-109 (fastest burner i have), sony dru-710a (use this one regularly for well over a year with no problems thus far), nec 3520a (very affordable, solid drive, dependable) and a lite-on 1633s (which is in fact identical to my sony drive, just OEM, rather than the fancy Sony packaging-internally, it's the same). i have read and heard nothing but great reviews of the plextor drive, but i have never owned one myself...but, will consider it once all my drives die~ :)
but, back to the point...as ddp suggested, need to know the model number and the firmware revision...firmware for me when i had my optorite DD1205, was VERY crucial as some media will NOT be recognized if your firmware is too out of date~ good luck, let us know~
