Hey all,
So I have tried much of what has been suggested in this awesome forum...yet i am stuck at an average of 2kB/s download speed with Azureus.
Here's what I am using :
A 1500kb/s cable connection
A 256kb/s upload ( so i set my max upload speed to ~22kBps)
Motorola SB5100i modem ( no wireless router)
My ISP informed me that I am given a DYNAMIC IP address
Since, I am not using a router, there should be no port forwarding issues right? I did, disable windows XP firewall, and then made exceptions by manually opening ports 6881-6889 ( both tcp and udp).
It doesnt seem to be a NAT error at all.
So what in the name of god is happening here?
This sluggish slow speed is frustrating the hell out of me. Could someone help me out? I would send you brownies where ever you are ! :-)
Is my dynamic IP to be blamed...? is service pack 2 to be blamed?

another problem I thought of, a lot of ISP's use port blacklisting to limit connections at common P2P programs use. Try using a port between 40,000 and 60,000...any port should do.

Azureus is only fast with me when i'm directly connected to the cable modem. However when I'm connected from a router that is connected to the cable modem, Azureus becomes slow and the download is colored in yellow. How do I solve this problem? Should I use a different port number>

hi
i've been having severe problems with my Azureus since i changed from the 3m service to the 5m service. i recieved a new modem that is equiped with wireless but i don't use it when im downloading.
now you'd think that i would be able to hit download speeds of over 30kb/s but i can't. doens't matter how many seeds or how fast the average speed is in a swarm. i get 7kb/s max for any specific download and a total of max 30kb/s but an average of about 12kb/s.
i do not have a firewall running. i have even taking my IP address out of the DMZ on my router. and nothing is working.
im currently using port 6881 and the Nat test says its OK!.
my max upload speed is 16kb/s, my max download speed is 0 (unlimited). max number of connections per torrent is set at 200 and connections globally is 0 (unlimited).
im pretty sure i've read every one of the post in this forum and i can't for the life of me figure out what is wrong.
please please please help. i know it used to work... what is wrong now?

Please use the BitComet guide in my signature, it should help you get get speeds of at least 80 KB/s on your 5mb cable line. If you are still having problems afterwards, post again or PM me and i will continue to help you.

I would try the modem. I know, sounds stupid. Anyways, I don't see how you can have that line and only get that speed. You mean 5MB right? I have a 150KBDL/100KBUL DSL line and I can get my full speed in a good swarm almost instantly. Also, try setting your upload higher...You can do better than that lol

I would like to quote myself:
"another problem I thought of, a lot of ISP's use port blacklisting to limit connections at common P2P programs use. Try using a port between 40,000 and 60,000...any port should do."
This was not aimless rambling lol

Ah, I think you took it the wrong way...I was pretty sure you had read it, I was not putting you at any sort of fault:)
I was also just saying, people like that need to read the damn thread before asking me to repeat an answer that is plainly visible 2 or 3 posts up lol.
For the record, I was putting porcelina at fault and not DVD.
No harsh feelings intended(towards DVD at least:P),

now. im prety sure i read that i didn't matter if you used 6881 if you were not using your wireless connection which i wasn't.
i also did not see why it was a problem since it was sayign it was ok.
the fact of the matter was that it was not the port causing me the massive problems. it was my upload speed which i had put too low for my connection and was causing problems. from changing that i've reached speeds of over 200kb/s.
so in this case i don't actually believe that you were right.
i also think that you should stop thinking that just because you understand something, EVERYONE understands it or even should, for that matter.
stop being a stuck up nerd. its an oxymoron.

I have a problem that I hope someone can help me with. I'm stuck on a file that has downloaded 99.8%, but has been stuck there for quite a few days now. It seems that there's only 2 pieces left and each one can always get 31 of the 32 blocks before the piece starts over. (I've actually downloaded over twice the size of the original file this way.) There's usually at least 3 seeds, but I'm choking them, which I think means I can't get anything from them. So I guess my question is... What exactly is choking and why am I choking the peers that I need to get to so I can finish the download? Thanks!

Just for information, I will quote myself, yet again.
First, "try setting your upload higher" Sept. 20, 18:59.
Second, "Try using a port between 40,000 and 60,000...any port should do." Aug. 28, 20:43.
I said both of these, and I was right.

OK, so I want to change my question a bit. I guess when I'm choking, the peer can't download from me... and I'm not choking all of the seeds, so now my question is this: Why does the piece that I need keep starting over when it gets 31 of the 32 blocks?

Well, after I downloaded over 1.2GB just trying to get 512KB of data from that problem, and researching for quite a while I found out what the problem was. In case anyone else has the same problem that I did and runs across this post, I'll mention what happened. It seems that there was a problem with Azureus not being able to correctly hash that 1 particular packet and therefore it thought it was a bad packet and started over. Well basically I found this link:
http://azureus.aelitis.com/wiki/index.php/NinetyNine
which said that some routers think they found your public IP address from your ISP and tried to change it to do some internal routing. To stop it from doing that, turn off DMZ and/or Gaming mode on your router.

OK, if choking means they can't download from you, it wouldn't matter for seeds...They are only uploading(Except for data receiving packets and the like) to you so choking in that sense is not a factor. When it gets to 31 pieces and starts over, maybe the data becomes corrupt. Maybe, after you get almost all of this piece, your computer realizes that it is failing hash check, so it deletes it and requests again.
Hope I helped,
Razor

can someone tell me why when i switched from bitcomet to Azureus, the dl speed drops so much? even the upload speed goes haywire! the main reason why i switched was because it seemed to me that bitcomet was downloading a lot of bad data as the total downloaded far exceeds the file size!

leogeo, you simply need to tweak your settings. Read all of the posts in this thread and see what you can come up with afterwards.
