I fixed mine too but not sure how. I had a folder still on my cpu that i had some songs in. I had deleted the songs but the folder was still there. When I deleted it, I couldn't get it out of my recycle bin. But now I did somehow. Oh well, at least it's gone.

I can help you specificlly if you tell me the file name with extention if it has one. Also include where the file is. Then I can tell you exactly how to remove it.
Sorry for such a long reply I'm just not an email kinda guy this is my only account I just dont check it often. Not to mention it is deerhunting season here in Wisconsin.

I have a similar problem. I have a file on my desktop that starts with the number 1 and has a lengthy name... "1 Thing After ANOTHER!!!![FullVersion].exe". When I Run CMD, I get the command "Documents and Settings\Keith>". I entered in after Keith> the word desktop. It accepted it. When I then enter in either "del\a" or "dir\a" and then "1 Thing After ANOTHER!!!![FullVersion].exe*, I get "Could not find C:\a" and the next line says "Could not find C:\Documents and Settings\Keith\1". This is really annoying. The file has 0 bytes and originally was a Torrent file.

Oh, and one other thing. When I try to delete in manually from my desktop, I get the message that it can't be deleted cause it is being used by another person or program. Maybe this will help.

Ok here is a very simple program that is freeware. It will remove file or folders by thier short name or by its universal name with just a few click and double clicks of the mouse. It truly is breath of fresh air in todays online experiences.

I also use this program daily from the same designer. This program is shareware with a 15-day trial. They both install into the same folder and don't worry about them installing over the top of each other just go ahead and install them as the default settings are.

Best of luck in all your online adventures and remember Don't let anyone ruin your fun because they have issues and can't get along.

Oh and GrandpaBW, Just formatting your harddrive may not get rid of some viruses and hacks. formating a disc just changes the begining of the line and fools the computer into thinking the entire line is blank when in fact it still holds all the information it did befor the format took place. there is low level formats that write al 0's to the drive but can also not get rid of everything.
Here is a link to a program that I use that erases the entire drive it was made for erasing goverment drives when they were through with them to make sure thier information could not be extracted off the harddrive. Now to guarantee total erase of the drive it takes 26 passes in the highest mode which take 7-15days you probley do not want to use those settings. Myself I use the quickerase mode with 1 pass. this can very on time depending on amount of information on the disc and size of the drive and speed of computer. It can take from 30 min to a few hours. I have never had a problem with a hack reappearing after reinstallation of OS. Its truly a great program and can be downloaded in a copy to floppy ver. or a burn to cd ver. and it is selfbooting after copying it to floppy or burning it to a disc insert it into the compter and turn it on. then use the very simpl menu to erase your harddrive returning it to a new like state.

Peace out all take care of you and your mates. that is all!!

Same issue...

scenario...

file is on a networked drive...

H:\IS\HOME\STOPDC\Toolbars\Internet\RX Store Layouts.url

safe mode is obviously not going to work because the file is not on my computer....

I am the owner of the folder... (777 access)

I can delete all the other files in the internet folder, but not this one. tried using short names, and it says that it does not exsist.

BTW grandpa... its not a virus
