the amd will out perform, out overclock, and stay a whole lot cooler than either of those pentium 4's not to mention amd is alot cheaper and paired with a nforce 4 motherboard will be rock stable. try to get a 3700 if you can you will not be dissapointed.

IIRR, we've gone through this before, but you asked the question under a different guise;

I would be careful in future, unless you want to annoy the mods & the rest of us.
AMD is the best by far, you have been told this MANY times. Don't you listen to what people tell you?

Hey anyone there? what are you going to run on it. I mean exactly what programs, cos it will make 30% difference to the
Intel Pentium® 4 550 3.4GHZ HT 1M 800FSB Processor With Ht Technology
in some apps so that it might level the playing field.

HT technology? I don't know, I can't see that having much of an effect on most applications. Only apps that are really configured for twin CPUs would handle that. But maybe Vista offers hope for that...

I dunno but when the new windows arrives and more apps use multithreading it could open up some gains for those, even single old single core Ht's

Vista, Longhorn, new windows that's probably going to be like... well what was windows 98 to windows 95. I can see Vista being exactly like that transformation from XP.
At any rate, by the time Vista will be used to a lot of its potential, I will already probably be looking at upgrading to a better processor. Trouble is, my old GPU isn't going to be of any use then - I might sell it to someone, I might keep it and use it in an older PC...
If I do come to up my performance, i'd be looking at whatever's in the range position that the A64 3700+ is in now.
That CPU would be sort of ideal for me now, so whatever's taken that position in the model range in late 2006 i'd probably try and get, along with an ATi Motherboard capable of some crossfire goodness...

It's a great shame, IIRR starts all these threads about processors & does not have the decency to respond to them. You guys are REALLY wasting your time here. He started 3 threads about this topic, he only replied a couple of times on one of them.
Do we really need people like this in our forum?

And don't we know it.
Let;s just say it will be a while yet. I wouldn't despair if you want to hang on about getting a pc with a new version of Windows, I'm sure you could obtain a less-than-legit version if you really wanted.
