I have a Lite-on DVDRW SOHW-1633S which I usually burn on.But I also have a NEC DVD+RW ND6500A. I've found that if I made a backup copy on the Lite-on burner it works fine for me but won't play in my daughters DVD player but if I backup using the NEC burner it works in both our players.

For better compatibility book type +R media to DVD-Rom. DVD-Rom should play in evertything. Here is the Lite-On utility

Sounds like a compatability issue. You have 2 different burners therefore a variation between the lasers. Some are weaker and some stronger.

The nec is a quality brand name, but I haven't heard much on the slim nd6500a.That's the stronger laser. This sounds like it is ok.

That lite-on 1633s should be a pretty good burner. Here's a link when I googled for your specs:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1684202,00.asp

This compatability issue has many numerous possibilities.

We need some info:

What brand/speed rate/and format of media are you burning with?example fuji +8x
How fast did you burn your backups?
What programs are you using for your dvd backup process?

I know liteon and nec burners has the bitsetting capability of booktyping the plus format media to dash. This so-called booktyping turns the plus format into the more universal dvd-rom format. It tricks your players and drive into thinking they are actual dvd-rom discs. This usually means higher compatability.Higher compatability means you can play your backups in many different stand alone players and pc dvd drives.

Certain programs can set your booktype for you. I use dvd shrink, nero, and dvd decrypter. I booktyped all my plus format media. The difference is enormous on the many stand alones I play those backkups on.

Media quality can also effect stand alones.Your daughter's player may not like that certain brand name or format of your media from that litey. The media is the first thing to check on.

It may be a simple media or format change.

My media type is Sony DVD+R Ver 1.2/1X-8X I usually burn at 4x,I was burning at 8X but seems I get a better burn at 4x. Also the same with the media, I seem to have less coasters with these. Thanks for the help, I was starting to think the Lite-on was ready for the trash can. The programs I use are DVD Shrink 3.1 ,AnyDVD 5.1.1.1,and CloneDVD2

Sony +1x-8x is some very good media. This is made in both taiwan with the mfg id code of SonyD11.The japanese sony +1x-8x are made by taiyo yuden and have the mfg code of: Yuden000-T02. These will go 16x in both my benqs.I burn a lot of these and keep it at 4x or 2.4x.
This should rule out media, but some players don't like certain mfg codes of media. Mort81 is a litey man and maybe he may pop in a suggestion for some great media for liteys.

Ppower posted that litey booktyping utility. Again, mort81 is the member who is all over that utility, inside and out!.

I don't know anything about clone dvd,but DVD Shrink has a box to tick to booktype. You just do your normal backup in DVD Shrink to let it compress. When you hit the backup tab, click on the burn setting tab on the far right. That's where that little box is,just tick it. Here's a pic:

Don't throw that litey away just yet. I've used 5 pc burners now. I can tell a difference about their stand alone compatability just by watching which stand alone/s will or won't recognize my backups. Booktyping my backups off my benq's are near flawless in over 30+ drives and counting. I've got quite a few backups circulating among my family and friends with only one complaint from an old ps2.My other 3 new burners couldn't even come close to that,so I replaced them with benq 1620's. I even got mort81 hooked on them and he's a happy camper!

Now lets see if we can get that baby to booktype those sony's.

Now that coaster situation is another story.Probably media quality of your other media you used. I've only got 1 ligitamate coaster this year on over 800+ backups off my original benq, with several hundred on the fly.I got 3 off the bat with a new HP-640c lightscribe, and the compatability was less than I desire. My spare pc has a newer benq with over 200+ backups without a coaster. It's only a single drive though along with a 598 mhz celeron!! Boy does she burn sweet!

Thanks alot. That problem had been driving me crazy. Pull your chair up to the cyberbar the drinks are on me. That utility Ppower came up with sure did the trick. Think I'll just back up and watch the masters at work for awhile. This is one place I can learn alot. I now know where to go when I have a problem and when my friends ask a question I can't answer I'll be sending them here.

My radar went crazy.........beep beep beep, Litey's and bitsetting. The link Ppower gave you should solve most of the compatability problems with your litey. Any good, proven, high quality DVD+R media should be ok. Stay away from prodisc, litey's don't like em although my benq will eat em up. Not to say that prodisc is top notch stuff but descent budget mid grade media just not with liteys. You should be ok with verbatum, taiyo yuden, sony, fuji (made in japan), maxell, branded ritek ridata, and ricohjpn.

Hi all:

I have an OEM sony drive. it recognizes and copies everything discs I have inserted in. However, it cannot recognize my lastest Korean DVD movie. When I used Nero to check the info of the DVD disc, the message said no disc drive. When I opened computer, my drive D (the DVD drive)is empty.

Any idea?????? I put in other Korean DVD as well as American DVD, all play well with the same Sony DVD drive.

Thanks

na_tra, same as creaky post along with what programs you are using?

Is this an original korean dvd,a burned dvd, or a pirated dvd?

Without knowing what you have, you may also have a region code problem. One way you might try is downloading AnyDVD by slysoft. This ripper runs in the background to pull off the encryption and region code off original dvd's.Since this problem is on 1 korean dvd,it could also be a bum disc.Or pirated disc.

Here is the drive info: Sony DW-U12A DVD-RW. It has been doing a fine job for me so far. Never had any problem with any DVD from anywhere. I copied about 4 set of original Korean DVD for my in law before this newest set. With this newest original set, my DVD drive could not recognize the discs when I insert them into the DVD drive. The DVD drive did not even play the movie either. When I checked with Nero tool info, it said no disc in the DVD drive. Windows media 10 said the same thing: no disc in drive. When I inserted other DVD movies, including the burn Korean DVD, into the same drive, everything played fine.

Thanks alot for you help
