Situation: Awhile back, before I got a DL burner, I burned a longish movie to two SL disks (no extras, just the movie & it's main English soundtrack). I would now like to combine the 2 SL disks onto 1 DL disk so that the movie runs complete from start to finish. I don't want or need menus, just the movie alone is fine. Since I have a DL burner (& blank DL disks, of course), I do not need to shrink or compress the movie.

Problem: I have tried splicing/combining the 2 disks into 1 using DVDRemake Pro ver. 2.6.4, but the output result is still separated into 2 titles, therefore the movie stops playing at the end of the 1st title.

Question: How do I splice/combine the 2 titles into 1 single title to burn to my DL burner so that the movie plays in its entirety from start to finish?
If possible, I would prefer not having to convert the format & then reconvert back to DVD format, since any conversion obviously introduces quality reduction.

DVD Shrink will do the trick and it's free. Also check it's guide from the guides tab above for the how to...

Yobuzzb, I took your suggestion, followed the detailed guide for re-authoring with DVD Shrink.

Unfortunately the output was still split into 2 titles.

I can't figure out how to combine the 2 titles into 1 title without first converting to mpeg, then back to VIDEO_TS, which I'm sure would degrade the quality, what with having to convert back & forth, etc.

If I could figure out how to integrate a hidden command to "Play All", that might work, unfortunately I don't have a clue how to do that.

Yes when Shrink is used there will be two titles but the second one will play immediately following the first. Just make sure they are in the right order. There may be a very short 'break' but not much longer than a fadeout or the 'layer break' seen on a normal DL disk.
regards

ps; you can check the Shrink output by playing the file on your PC before burning to see if meets you desired results. This will avoid wasting a DL (they are more costly).

You can use VOBedit and IFOedit to do this. First copy all the VOB files from both disks to one folder on your hard drive. Rename them so the files from the 2nd disk don't conflict with those from the 1st disk. You want to end up with a complete set of VOB files from both disks in the proper order.

Then use this guide to create a new set of VOB,BUF,IFO files:
http://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/120021.php

You'll then have the complete movie, no breaks, pauses or re-encodes, which you can burn to a new DVD. Of course, this assumes that when you first split the movie the first frame on the 2nd disk is the very next frame that came after the last frame on the 1st disk.

Thanks Moonrocks, I followed the link (very detailed instructions).
This seems to be exactly what I'm looking for.

Thanks to the other guys for their suggestions too.
