Sony DRU-700A & DVD+R DL

Hi guys, Joe here new member at afterdawn. I am using a Sony DRU-700A with Nero Express Version 5.5.10.44 and Verbatim DVD+R DL. Have no problam with my video files they are all ripped and have previous sucsess burning to high quality single layer DVD R/RW. Nero will not read the DVD+R DL as dual layer. If I try to burn more than 4G it tells me not enough space! Anyone got any suggestions, is their a reliable firmware upgrade of the burner?

latest firmware for this drive is VY08, from http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/firmware.htm#700. this is the same drive as i have. if i recall correctly Nero 5.x.x.x does NOT support this drive correctly, hence why i went 6.x.x.x. ie it's supported generically as far as i remember.
Either way, need more to go on, ie LAST section from your Nero log which should be in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log.
I suspect you'll find this particular paragraph in the logfile -

Well Nero Didn"t Support Burning Dual Layered Media till I think Version 6.0.0.12 so the 5.xxx version definately will not Burn Dual Layered Disks....
