Ok, I've been researching for a little bit, I know I need a external enclosure but do not know if there are any differences. I do not have a port for firewire so usb2.0 will have to be used. I am going to buy the 1640, does it have lightscribe or is that only the 1620? I still do not know which disks to use. I heard use rw b/c you'll screw up but then - or + R. Please help me out

external burners aren't my cup of tea,but the benq 1640 should be a very good lightscribe burner. I've got 2 benq 1620's and they don't feature the lightscribe. I've got the hp 640c lightscribe, but the benqs kicked it's ass after my compatability tests on my stand alones. Those hp backups couldn't even come close to playing on all my pc drives and stand alones! My benqs couldn't even re-rip one of those hp taiyo yuden backups! That hp had to go.

Benq's booktyping feature is another asset!

Which discs to use? My 1620's love everything in the plus format, even cmags. The plus format media can be booktyped to dvd-rom.

I don't know if I helped you out much, but good luck!

Bytecc makes some of the best external enclosures (best chipset, etc)... Link to buy the Bytecc enclosure:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817145341

Had no problems at all with mine!!! Comes with everything you need (drivers, etc), but when I installed mine, it was just plug-and-play on WIN XP SP2.

The enclosure i linked you to does not require you to get firewire...
