anydvd/shrink seem to be doing a good job with this movie.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

I had the same problem, but now after failing on kung fu hustle I can't get it to work with ANY movie, even ones I've already successfully burned. They will analyze fine, but waste the disc on the burn failure. The log says "#28 CDR -1046 File Writer.cpp, Line 311
Illegal disc", it never did that before. Did kung fu throw some hidden file on my computer that I have to delete?

@jaehomo - sounds like you're trying to burn to a subpar blank disc

I'm using Memorex 8x dvd-r's, and the first 75 of the 100 spindle pack worked great, not a single misfire. My first failure was with kung fu hustle, and now even ones I've already burned (so I know should work) won't work. I'm using a Sony burner.

by the way, I usually use just DVD Shrink but with this one and a couple others I used DVD Decrypter.

okay, i'll pick up some better media. BUT, why would the first 75 burn sweet, and ever since that movie I get an "illegal disc" error in the log for any movie? That sounds more like a software prob than a media prob.

could well be other problems as well as the bad media, but read thru those links in the meantime, and all will become clear re bad media...

All right, final question, because I haven't seen this answered yet.

Is ANY Verbatim good, or does it have to be the datalifeplus?

I had no problem backing up KFH, but I have the region 3 version I got from a friend in HK back in April. Its weird though how the region 3 from Sony works prefectly in shrink...especially how there are a lot of bootleggers in HK, etc

can somebody help me please. I was using 1click with AnyDVD but I kept getting an error message that said "cyclic redundancy check". It would read all the way through but right before it started to burn the error message came up. I read that people had luck with cloneDVD2 but I tried that with AnyDVD and it didnt work either. I finally got DVDshrink and ran that with AnyDVD and I got the same error messages "cyclic redundancy check". What does this mean and can someone please tell me what I need to do

cyclin redundancy check= disc is dirty or scratched. try cleaning it with dish detergent or better yet, toothpaste.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

@CNguyen - unfortunately it's a very common problem. it's possible you have a bad 'pressing'. last resort is to exchange the disc for another.

@jaehomo - what Verbatim do you have in mind ? (i only use datalifeplus personally)

@ jaehomo

i have found the "regular" Verbatims to be good, i do have the datalifeplus as creaky mentioned, BUT much more of the regular non-datalifeplus ones. i sincerely see NO BIG DIFFERENCE between the two, they are both naturally MCC003 coded on BOTH the 8x DVD+R variety, so, i can safely say, you should be ok with either or. :)

I got a question for you guys, Creaky and Kivory........I have always used DVD+Rs as I booktype them to DVD-ROMs. My standalone DVD player plays them just fine. my burner, philips 8631 can do DVD-Rs and I've been thinking of trying it out. Will it play on my standalone? It doesn't mention -Rs at all. How can I tell? or should I just go out and buy a -R disk and try it out?

@ihoe

my suggestion would be to just "try it out"...don't go out and buy 100 spindle of Verbatim dvd-rs :) stand alone players generally WILL play the DVD-R format, as that is generally regarded as being the most compatible format (bearing in mind that you don't consider DVD+R booktyped to dvd-rom, as that is THEN regarded as the most compatible).

so, stick with the Verbatims if they have been good for you...i have a 100 spindle of the 8x DVD-R that creaky loves so much, but, i have over a thousand of the 8x DVD+R Verbatim that I love so much :)

give it a go, i am guessing the DVD-R SHOULD work, but, in the same breath, if the DVD+R booktyped to dvd-rom has been working SO great for you, why change a good thing? outta curiousity i guess...but, stick with what works FOR YOU~ :)

have a good one.

...what kivory666 said lol.

personally (if there wasn't an option to booktype +R's) i guess i'd have always stayed with -R as i've had sooo many work so well. However with Nero now booktyping automagically for me, i'll probably use up the huge stock of -R that i have left and then start mass buying +R in future. much of a muchness to me though
