Illegal Disc error using Nero

Hey all,
I've been experiencing a bunch of problems with burning DVD's. I've read many threads here and tried the solutions but one problem leads to the next. Right now I have the "illegal disc" and "could not perform end of disc-at-once" errors. I've tried flashing the drive, updating the firmware (I think I have), dusting off the lens with compressed air, and none seems to be working... Please advise me on what to do. Thanks a bunch

however the firmware is too old, dated July 2004, so
i can't see a way forward other than to buy a new drive; your firmware is integral to burning, if it's firmware can't recognise newer media you're gonna have to search high and low for 'older' media that the firmware is able to handle, but it's gonna be easier to spend a few quid/dollars and buy a new drive...

...or, if you don't want to buy a new burner and can't find new original firmware, you are lucky to have a NEC, which has great modif. firmware support, you can try and crossflash your drive. You can try that avenue, and see how it works for you.

I know, this illigal disc palgue will just not go away! I don't have any other suggestions either, but for running out of steam, I can suggest a cold Heineken! It always works for me! if it doesn't work, the problem might be your taste buds, they might have a different acquired prefference. Can try different brand, Corona with lime works for me also, or you need more than just one beer!

I actually got hold of a copy of Nero 7 Ult. Ed. so after using the Nero Clean Tools I installed Nero 7. Now it gets to about 4% before giving me the same message.... Any ideas? Here's the new log:

you'll have inconsistent results with those particular discs you were using as the burners' firmware isn't equipped to recognise them, so you'll get sporadic results..

Also, the copy of Nero that you "got hold of ", Nero Version: 7.0.0.0 , it is an old and buggy one. That will not help you in any way.

hi..i can't burn anything..on any media..i am using nero 7.0.8.2 to burn and dvd decryptor as well, i am getting a I/O error reading with dvddecryptor..incompatibale media...but i burned using the same media 1 day..then nothing the next..its not the media..this is my nero log..oh yeah i have 2 lite on burners sohw-1673-s, and sohw 812s, they both stopped working on the same day..hmm Windows XP 5.1

wow..Nero 7 is really that buggy?..i just switched back to Nero 6.6.0.13 and it burned on the first try..lol, i guess i deserved a few weeks of coasters for deserting good old faithful..thank you for the Nero clean tool link..and the idea for back..save me from replacing 2 perfectly good burners
