Suddenly, after many successes, I cant get DVD Decrypter to recognize my sony burner. Under "Destination," it now reads "No writers detected" & I cant fix it from settings section so far. Here is the log:
I 14:59:54 DVD Decrypter Version 3.5.4.0 started!
I 14:59:54 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2)
I 14:59:54 Initialising SPTI...
I 14:59:54 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...
I 14:59:57 Found 1 DVD-ROM!
I 15:01:10 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...
I 15:01:10 Found 1 DVD-ROM!

Here are a couple things to try...

Uninstall and reinstall the drive.
Check all cables to make sure they are seated properly.

go into settings, I/O devices and change the SPTI around, see which ones (if any) see your other device. If none, make sure your computer can see it and that it sees it as a writer. Go into device manager and make sure there's no ? or ! anywhere.

Found XP didn't recognize drive E (burner). Then remembered -- try shutting down & then reboot, which solved my problem. Decrypter was not the pronlem ! Thanks to above folks, CW

Milly if you are running windows xp!!!??? then perform a system restore as i have had this problem a couple of times and it worked for me just remeber to restore to when DVD Decrypter last workeeeeed
