I am in need of a new burner, mine is slow and has trouble ripping. I just got a new sata hdd which is great for ripping etc. I am wondering if anyone has used or heard about the Plextor SATA burners on sale at newegg. Also is plextor a trusted brand in general for burners?

Plextor is the top dog among dvd burners. I noticed there is a limited selection for sata dvd drives.

I got me a Plextor 716UF (external) burner a few months ago and its top of the line. It can be a bit picky with the type of media you use but once you update with the latest firmware and use quality media you shouldn't have any problems. The nice thing about the 716 is the 8MB buffer it comes with, most other burners are usually just 2MB.

I have no experience with a SATA drive but you can't go wrong with the Plextor name.

I have a Plextor PX-716SA and it works great. Just make sure before you buy it that your MB can support it and Plextor has tested configurations on thier website. This happened to me where HDs worked fine and not the burner and had to purchase an Adaptec SATA PCI card.

I just read a review on the newegg site that said the sata burner is actually an ide burner with a sata adapter on the back, so its not any faster, I went with teh benQ that comes with bonus dvds.

You should be very well pleased with the benq.My first one performed so well, compatability wise on stand alones, that I purchased a second one for my backup 598 mhz celeron pc.I booktype dvd plus media to dvd-rom.I've got 3 other pc dvd burners that couldn't even come close!

I have two Plextor PX-716SA (Serial ATA) burners in my system and they are both fantastic. I have used Plextor products since buying my first 4x SCSI Plextor CD-ROM back in 1994. The Plextor name was tops then and is still the best you can buy.

Just read your most recent post. You got some bad info because the Plextor SATA DVD burners are true SATA.
