I just purchased a ABIT MB that auto defaults the FSB to 200Mhz in the CMOS settings however it can be manually adjusted. I also just purchased a P4 3.0 CPU HT with a 800Mhz FSB. Will it cause any adverse affects if I adjust the FSB on the MB to 800? Any help would be appreciated.

just install the cpu without doing any changes in the bios to see if it autosets to the correct speed.

Did that and that's when it set it at 200. The instructions state that it will set it at either 100 or 200 but it can be adjusted, however they wouldn't garauntee stability. I didn't want to try it without checking with the experts ay AD and getting advise for fear of blowing something up...LOL.

Yes it does. There is a twist that I just saw and is probably a nOOb issue. It has a mulitiplier, which I'm not sure what that is, that says 15x.

Ok...I think I figured it out...with some help from google. The multiplier takes the 200 preset bus speed and multipies to give you the CPU speed ie 200 Mhz x 15 = 3.0 Ghz. The multiplier is fixed but the FSB value in the bios is not so you could overclock it to increase the CPU. Am I right so far?

I don't see what good overclocking would do me personally as even at my most strenuous multi-tasking the CPU stradled at around 50%. I didn't realize when I originally asked that I was refering to overclocking or I would have searched other forum but I learned something new!

Thanks for listening, ddp, as I worked through it.

Your FSB is dictated by your memory. If you have 400 memory, the FSB will be 200.
