Hi,

Right now, I am trying to make a copy of Star Trek: The Original Series. (I own it.) I have Season 1 Disc 2, and I can't get it to work on the copy. This is what I've done:

I first used Nero 6.0 to do a regular DVD Copy of it. When I did that, the DVD copied fine, no errors along the way. When I tried to play it, it loaded fine, but the last two episodes (there are four on a disc) froze when I tried to start them.

I then used Padus DiscJuggler to make an image file, then I burned it with Padus. Same results.

I then used DVD Shrink to remove any protection (there was none on S1D2) and made a backup with it. I then burnt it with DVD Decrypter. Same results.

I then used DVD Decrypter under mode: "ISO->Read" to make an iso of it. I got two files on my hard drive and an MDS file. I then burnt it under "ISO->write" without the verify/test options. Same results. I then retried this method with 4x speed (before I burnt it with 8x. Same results.

The DVD I am trying to copy is in perfect condition, it's a mirror (very clean.) My DVD burner is new. And with this particular DVD, I have copied it successfully in the past (with the same media I am using now) and for some reason now it isn't working. I am doubtful it is the DVD burner, as the problem appears in the same exact parts of the DVD.

-When the copied DVD loads in a DVD player, it loads fine. Out of the four episodes on a disc, the first two play perfectly. The menus and selections from the first two episodes are perfect. The last two episodes freeze at the selection menu. I am able to play them on my computer by selecting the video file and dragging the single file (the single file of the episode I want to play) into WinDVD. The selection menus of the last two episodes freeze.

My last futile attempt was the use of AnyDVD. This was a halfa$$ attempt as well. I loaded AnyDVD on my comp. I restarted, then AnyDVD was loaded, and I did the Decrypter -> read:iso, write:iso. No success.

This DVD was burned perfectly in the past with the same exact equipment that is in use now. It is in the same condition. I have no idea how to proceed next. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You could have a bad batch of Blank Media. Even tho you had successes with that brand before dosent mean there isnt a bad batch of them disc.

I had that problem before. Ran into some bad disc that uasly burn great. Got diffrent ones and it worked fine.

Also just because its the same brand of media you use all the time dosent mean its the same manufature making those DVDs. There is always a possibility that the blank media is actully manufactured by a diffrent company then the ones you had before.

Try getting a DVD Blank media Identifier and check the good DVD burns to the media that your having trouble with now see if the manufactures ID are the same.

you could also try adjustibg the final size of the DVD when you run it threw DVD Shrink to 4300 that way it wont burn to the edge of the disc where the dye of the DVDs could be flawed.

All in all you said that it keeps messing up in the same place. Did you try doing a diffrent DVD? see if it does it with a diffrent 1. If so then more then lily its your media or your burrner is going bad.

hello breaks I totally agree w/ larrylje this sounds like a media problem you can try a program called vso inspector(free) to find out what the true nature of your media and drive and hopefully work out any compatability issues very useful tool you can also try the link in my sig but the app should tell you all the info you need if you are in a hurry you can try compressing w/shrink to get it away from the edge of the disc as this is a tender spot for many sub-par media manuf. but I would find media that you set-up likes a little better in a huury.
peace

Just wanted to reply. Yes, it was the media. I used about half of a 50pack of DVD-R (Matrix media) trying different methods seeing if it could possibly be my fault (before I posted the first time.) I then opened a second pack I had, and the same method worked. As it worked before. It seems I just got stuck with a very very bad batch of media this time. So thanks for letting me know, unless I'd still being finishing up the first pack with repeated methods.

I plan on returning my second pack of Matrix media, and purchasing Verbatim DVD-r's for my NEC drive.

It seems that somebody has had good experience with it, with a NEC drive as well. I checked around, verbatim seems to be a quality media type, and thanks to that review, I know it is most likely compatiable with my NEC drive.
