I've been burning for a while and just recently got a new computer. Since I got it I haven't been able to burn anything but coasters. Can someone help before I go nuts? I use and have used Fujifilm DVD-R's for over two years. I am using Nero to burn and keep getting this error message:

First thing you should do is edit out your serial number from the Nero Log. You don't want others using it.
I think you problem may be related to your Prodisc blank media.
10:13:56 PM #27 CDR -1046 File Writer.cpp, Line 311
Illegal disc.
Try another brand of blank media(TY, Ritek or Verbatim).

Jerry...... why do you include Ritek, a second class disk, in with Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim disks? http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
I only used first class media.... Maxell, Taiyo Yuden, Sony, and Verbatim. Ritek is ok..... but there are others so much better and for the same price! just wondering....... they work good for you, I guess. I had them but I'll stick with my Tys & Sonys! I never had a coaster from these manufactures and they even feel better in my hand..... made right...... you know?

Ok. I tried the DVD+R that came with the burner and it burned fine. Here's a new question: why would it burn (Fuji Film DVD's )perfectly in my previous computer and not burn at all now? Is there some way I can fix this? It burns data perfectly. I just can't burn video. Why is that? I've been searching to understand. Thanks.

you leave a lot of information out!~ what's different from one computer than your new one? And what drives you had and have now! What OS are you running and such? Changing disks from DVD -Rs to
DVD +Rs can make the difference with some drives. That's why it's good to know what you had before and what is different now that can tell you the story!
I know my old DVD RW drive had problems and then I bought this new computer and all of the old problems are gone! And from learning how to from AD and all the helpfull people willing to teach, I've learned a lot and check out my collection in my signature!

I used to have a Sony RX-490TV. It had a 1.7ghz Intel P4, 128 ram, 64 shared memory. A dead system. Now I have a AMD 2700 Barton, 1gb ram 266mhz, 128mb video memory, lite on dvd rom, lite on 1673S dvd burner, and a 120 and 40 gb hard drive. Huge improved.
Your computer (Ihoe) sounds sick!!

@Ihoe, Where do you get that Ritek is second class media. It is one of the better media out there. Not quite as good as TY but I consider them better than Verbatim. Don't believe everything you read.

I recommend trying the f/w update arniebear gave you the link to. Your media is not being recognized. I always had poor results with prodisc and my litey but thats just my experiences. My benq ate em up.

Sorry to have sounded off about Ritek...... but if you looked at this site: http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm shows Ritek in the 2nd grouping....... SECOND CLASSS! Just reporting what is said here! Notice that MCC (Verbatiums) are under Taiyo Yuden (who not only make TYs but some Sony disks too) and Maxell tops the list! Although, it's been my experience that Maxell is not the top disk!I like TYs and Sonys best! they seem to even feel like a higher quality disk! So don't jump on me...... jump on the DigitalFAQ site! Only reporting what I read! but I must say I never had problems with RICHOJPN=Ritek or Richo or even RITEK=Ritek(Taiwan)......even some of the old (2-3 yrs ago) Memorex disk (which are RICHOJPN disk) still working strong! It's the NEW AND MORE RECENT Memorex disk that suck...... the CMC crap!!!! So if you guys love Ritek..... so be it! but I'll stick with my TYs and Sonys and Verbatims and Maxells! To each their own! DON'T KILL THE MESSENGER! thank you thank you!

IMHO everybody has their own preferences in media, just as they do in the programs they use. That is why the forums remain interesting, everyone can contribute varying knowledge/opinions on a wide variety of subjects.

hey that's cool ........ but what do you think about DigitaFAQ site that I showed in the previous reply? Is that site sound? I really think that Maxells are NOT the best disks as TYs or Sonys or Verbatims...... those are my choices. I had TDKs but, I feel that their disks, as with Maxells, are below TYs, Sonys, and Verbatims! Doesn't the TYs and Sonys feel like REAL QUALITY disks? They feel thicker and heavier and more to them than the other disks! They burn easy and I NEVER EVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH THEM AT ALL! 100% SATISFACTION!

Hi Ihoe, I didn't mean to actually jump you like it sounded. That link you listed to the media chart is sort of misleading. They have CMC MAG listed in the 3rd group and again in the 4th group. They shouldn't even be listed on there. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the media companies donated to the forum to get a good listing position. Which brought about the last part of my comment Don't believe everything you read. I have been using only Ritek and Ty when the price is right for over a year now with not one bad burn or playback problem. Probably about 90% Ritek and 10% TY. Like stated above everyone has their favorite media and software. Once you find the perfect setup you stick with it. Sorry if my reply came out the wrong way. I try not to do that.

again...... no prob...... I was just reading and replying...... nothing more..... but always learning!!!! Is there any other site that has an impartial listing of good media to bad? what's the top brand and what's the worst?? I think DigitalFAQ is close, at least it's an indication.... if there are any other sites that lists the media and gives it's grade to it...... please pass it on! Inquiring minds want to know!

My LiteOn 411S doesn't like Ritek blanks.. it's hit or miss when I use them in that but I also have an IO Magic DD1601 which I believe is made by OptoRite that has no problems with them. Out of a 100 disk spindle I've had 2 coasters. The other day I accidentally burned an 8X DVD+R at 12X in it expecting a coaster and was surprised that it played even in the fussier of my stand alone players. Normally I don't burn faster than 4X.

Verbatim 8x DVD+Rs can be burned at 12X, the Taiyo Yuden and Sony 8x DVD+Rs can be burned at 16x..... I never had a problem with those disks burned at higher speeds........ they are that good! But just in case.... I burn only at 4x ...... JUST IN CASE!
