Can DDR400 be used with DDR333 on the same machine?
or would that result in a slower pc & slower performance?
My motherboard supports both

Yep, elusiv is quite correct, the memory will only go as fast as the MOBO & CPU will let it. Don't forget that 400 memory is its' FASTEST speed, it is NOT the default speed, that is set by the speed of your CPU & the MOBO FSB.

Damn if i use my single 1gig strip i get to use @ ddr400
if i put it 256 more ram the at ddr333
is it even worth it to downgrade to 333 over 256 mb of more ram?

I actually tryed it with both set in & u r right EXCEPT!!
Internet Explorer & FireFox r way slower on DDR333
Other than ... theres not too much of a speed diff on non internet based programs
