im haveing problems with my optical drives. when i change a cd or dvd while the pc is switched on then try to go into my computer
it appears blank then when i end task the desktop dissapers and doesnt come back. and whaen i put audio cds in the dvd drive it comes up with weird track lengths eg 4235miniutes long but the audio cds work fine in the cd writer. there are also problems when i write audio cds sometimes the writeing fails or it says completed succesfuly but the tracks are faulty and some dont play plese help.

I am running a
AMD Athlon 2600+
a Ricoh 4x DVD+r and a Diamond Data CD-RW on the same IDE channel with the Ricoh set as master and cdrw as slave
an 80gb hdd set as master and a 40gb hdd set as slave
A GeForce FX5200
and windows XP

try setting both hds as master on each cable with the rom drives as slave to see what happens

give ddp's suggestion a try, could also unistall the drives in device manager and then reboot. Let windows find/re-install the drives see if that helps.

Thanks for the help but i went to try the next day and windows wouldnt load proply so i ended up formating the whole thing and starting again but this time with one optical drive and one HDD
