Hope I'm in the right forum. Anyway I have just partitioned a Hard disk of 80 Gig -using Win 98 FDISK. Previously it was NTFS with Win XP Pro. Now FDISK is telling me I only have 10 Gig!
Any help appreciated

Don't worry - it's a fault with fdisk.
If a hard disk is larger than 64GB, fdisk reports the difference in size above 64GB rather than the actual size. Fdisk still formats the whole 80GB.

as cornwafer said, format the drive if using fat32 will come out at about 80 gigs. should be the same if in ntfs format.

Hi Again,
I have just purchased a cheapo installation copy of Windows XP from Ebay - and it doesn't work. Two thirds of the way thru the installation the computer screen starts flashing. Installation finishes too quickly and when windows loads I get a constant beep. Not sure if this is a hardware fault or the dodgy copy of XP so I have decided to test the hardware by installing a copy of Windows ME - Just wondered if there was likely to be a problem - ie Windows ME wont see the full volume of the hard disk?
Thought I'd ask before trying

Another little help for anyone moving from windows NT 2000 professional to another version. Try the command fdisk /mbr to get rid of tags left on the master boot record, even after fdisking the drive. Do this before formatting the drive to avoid any problems.
