i am getting a bit concerned about the lack of sound after i installed new mobo on my computer.

i just installed a GIGABYTE GA-8IG1000 MK but cant seem to get the onboard sound to work,

i have tested the speakers and they are ok, i also have latest BIOS and drivers installed, and its a clean formatt and install of xp sp2, i have checked in the device manager and its enabled and the volume on the computer and the speakers are turned up,

any suggestions as this is getting a bit annoying

The problem is that your front audio ports are not connected to the motherboard. If you dont have front audio ports in your Case, the connectors on the motherboard themselves need to be jumpered.

i started off by having the front ones connected, then when i was messing around trying to get the sound to work i tried disconnecting them and putting the jumpers back on,

didnt seem to work

How many Pins does the front audio connector have on it, total? Try experimenting with the positions of the jumpers, because that is the root of you problem. Can you draw on here(using periods)what the arrangement of the pins looks like.

OK. Well you did jumper the pins like that and they still didn't work? Make sure the speakers are plugged into an otulet. Also check if they are connected properly to the audio ports in the back. Check the settings in Windows, and make sure the audio is set to the number of audio channels that you have.

I dunno about your Mobo but some mobo's have onboard audio that needs a power source, no?

now sorted
in the window with the volume control, i clicked on properties, and it appears that the tick box to show PC SPEAKER volume control was not ticked, all the rest of the settings were turned up,

when i enabled this tick box, the pc speaker volume was shown as being muted!

it seems a bit weird, i dont think i toouched it before and seems strange as being muted as the default settings?

glad is sorted as its a good , thanks for help every1
