I have just upgraded to Nero 6 Ultra edition and now my always reliable Verbatim DataLife Plus media are turning rapidly into coasters ! . I am now getting one good copy out of 5 !
I checked the other log file posts and I know I have to update my WinAspi file, but I don't think that is the problem. I posted this log file because I am getting the problem even with files that are no where near the capacity limit. My media is amongst the best.

Can anyone spot the problem ?

thanks

Do you have packet writing software such as Roxio, because Nero and Roxio do not play well together.

@matt72 - lol, don't worry, my firm keeps moaning at me about my surfing. have told them a few times to quit complaining as their monitoring software is dire. Also i've told them & will keep telling them that my forum posting is fine, i use the internet for what it was designed for - a research tool.

i'm off this week so am blatting thru the forums a bit more than usual.

hopefully the original poster will be sorted when he sorts the firmware etc ..

Well I followed the instructions carefully and step by step . But something caused Windows XP to go into safe mode. I am currently trying to figure out why XP thinks my Liteon DVD burner is a generic with a generic driver. I think when the firmware was updated on the burner, it has caused a driver issue which affected the boot process. I will keep you posted.

Well here is the latest. I have updated Nero, the Firmware, got the right DMA settings. Just one big problem. None of my optical drives work. Both my CD drive and my Liteon DVD burner have the dreaded yellow sign against them in Device Manager. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no luck. The Device Manager Message is " Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39) " but Liteon use Windows XP to get the driver so I am going round in circles.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated .

Nero is finally working. My problem was the recommendation to remove Roxio. After I did this my Windows XP problems started. So for future reference if anyone else gets the following " symptoms "

After you remove either compact disc (CD) recording software or other software from your computer, your computer may exhibit the following behavior:
? In My Computer, there is no access to your CD-ROMs.
? In Device Manager, the following error message appears in connection with any CD-ROM device that is part of your computer system:
The device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (Code 31).
? Device Manager displays the following error message:
A driver for this device was not required, and has been disabled (Code 32 or Code 31).
You may also receive an error Code 39 message that indicates that the driver is corrupted.

? Device Manager displays the following error Code 19 message, which means that the registry returned some unknown result:
Your registry might be corrupted. (Code 19)
? You may also receive the following error message:
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

here is the link to solve the problem .

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314060

It worked for me and now Nero is burning again.

Excellent find and research. Very interesting, I have never used Roxio because I am a long time Nero user, and early on found Roxio to be a pain. This article really solves a problem and I am glad that it solved yours. Happy burning :)

Hello,
It might be because you never completely remove roxio unless you use roxio zapper.

I have not used Roxio for a long time but I removed it with Add/remove Pro below. Everything seemed to uninstall fine.

Add/Remove Pro v. 2.08

This program is freeware written by Ray Geide and
distributed by Super Win Software -

From looking at the Microsoft Support page, it does look like there can be a few problems with getting Roxio off a PC. Thankfully Forums like this let you find the hidden solutions.

hi rusty56,

Great research in helping solve your own dilemna. When you uninstall roxio for some reason it remains in your registry. Alot of folks don't like to fool with the reg as if you screw it up your system will skunk. personally I use registry cleaner after i remove any program and found that after using it there are no remnants of old deleted programs. Once again great work on your part after the other suggestions you fixed. Stick around there is alot of good info here and like as you did in this thread take the info, add to it and you're back in business. Happy burning.

@rusty56,

I, myself, don't like either Roxio or InCD regardless. It's a good thing that you took it off from your computer. Well, it looks like you had almost everything straight out.

Now, just post up your new Nero log and we'll see what happen from thereafter, if only you still encounter any errors. Don't worry and trust me because I know for sure that Mr. Creaky is an expert on Nero, I have my faith in him. Cheers now :)

Damn... it's good to be back and surf this forum from a long vacation afterall.

just checked that article (good find by the way), and to be honest i'd still keep an eye on Roxio with a view to uninstalling it if you're still having problems. At least you know how to get rid of it now

Here is the successful Nero Burn log. But would you believe it, I booted up today and found myself in Safe Mode again. As the only things I have done to the PC relate to the DVD burner, it has to have something to do with it. So If I find out something interesting , I will post it.
BTW , thanks to everyone for the help and interest.

@rusty56,

Even though you may have a successfully burned/backed up, it won't hurt to take a look at a few of your DMA settings. By meaning, it won't hurt to turn them back ON available if you can. Another thing to look out for is your "Free physical memory", just try to free up more memory next time when you're ready to do another back up and you should be all set to go.

Below is an example of a successful burned from mine, I'm using Maxell 8X DVD+R "Made In Japan", ID Code: MAXELL-002-000. Just thought I'd share it that's all.

Thanks Guys. Yes, I did only check my Liteon DVD burner DMA. I didn't realise that the DC-ROM drive DMA would affect the DVD drive. I did burn 6 other DVD's without a hitch. What I need know is a Windows XP Pro log so that I can get my PC to boot normally. I think I might have to reinstall Roxio to solve that problem !!

You may want to restore XP back to when it worked. After that, try running the Nero tools.
