Does anyone know what I've done wrong? I want to convert a 350 Mb .avi file to mpeg (I've already splitted the avi)with Tmpgenc but the mpeg turns out to be 1.5 Gb. How can I get this thing smaller?

There is not much you can do if you're using MPEG 1. If you're using MPEG 2 you can lower the bitrate.

robwau, give me the full length of that video file in minutes! Also what exactly did you try doing with TMPGEnc?? (obviously convert it to mpg but what i mean is, did you use a template or anything!)

If you are trying to make VCD, then I'm afraid the size is always proportional to the length of the movie. You will need two discs. It is quite normal for a 150MB avi to fill a whole CDR when converted into mpg, even though the quality will be lower. This is due to converting something that has already been converted, if you see what I mean.

Paul.

What i reckon the problem here is, is that TMPGEnc is over estimating the length of the avi! This is a very famous bug in the program but it can be fixed by clicking setting - advanced tab - tick the box beside source range. double click source range and when you see your options appear, click "move to start frame" and click "set start frame" then click "move to end frame" and click "set end frame". Now click ok and the file may be a litle smaller in size. However, if you are creating vcd, the file size can be determined by the length of the movie file. An 80 minute movie ends up as 800mb (which is perfect for a 700mb cd by the way!) so for 1.5gigs, you should have a movie 150 minutes in length!
